Ossie Moore
Ossie Moore (born 6 July 1958) is an Australian professional golfer. Early life Moore was born in Murwillumbah. Professional career Moore played on the European Tour from 1984 to 1991. His best finish was second at the 1987 PLM Open. Moore also played on the PGA Tour of Australasia, winning the Order of Merit in 1985. He won the Queensland PGA Championship twice. Professional Golfer
A professional golfer is somebody who receives payments or financial rewards in the sport of golf that are directly related to their skill or reputation. A person who earns money by teaching or playing golf is traditionally considered a "golf pro," most of whom are teachers/coaches. The professional golfer status is reserved for people who play, rather than teach, golf for a career. In golf, the distinction between amateurs and professionals is rigorously maintained. An amateur who breaches the rules of amateur status may lose their amateur status. 1987 World Cup (men's Golf)
The 1987 World Cup took place November 18–21 at Kapalua Resort, Bay Course, in Kapalua, Hawaii, United States. It was the 33rd World Cup event. The previous World Cup was played in 1985, since the 1986 event was cancelled. It was a stroke play team event with 32 teams. Each team consisted of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results. The Wales team of Ian Woosnam and David Llewellyn won after a sudden death playoff over the Scotland team of Sandy Lyle and Sam Torrance. It was the first playoff for the team title in the event's history. The individual competition was won by Woosnam, five strokes ahead of Lyle. The World Cup of Golf is a men's golf tournament contested by teams of two representing their country. Only one team is allowed from each country. The players are selected on the basis of the Official World Golf Ranking, although not all of the first choice players choose to compete. The equivalent event for women was the Women's World Cup of Golf, played from 2005 to 2008. History The tournament was founded by Canadian industrialist John Jay Hopkins, who hoped it would promote international goodwill through golf. It began in 1953 as the Canada Cup and changed its name to the World Cup in 1967. Australian Men's Interstate Teams Matches
The Australian Men's Interstate Teams Matches were an amateur team golf competition for men between the states and territories of Australia. The event started in 1904 when New South Wales played Victoria. Until World War II the event was played as part of the championship meeting which included the Australian Amateur. It was not until 1947 that all six states, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, and Western Australia, contested the event together. Northern Territory first played in 2015 increasing the number of teams to seven. The final format was a round-robin tournament, each team playing the other six teams, after which the top two teams play a final. Each team consisted of eight players. Sloan Morpeth Trophy
The Sloan Morpeth Trophy was an amateur team golf tournament, played between Australia and New Zealand. It was contested irregularly from 1947 to 2016. The trophy was presented by Sloan Morpeth in 1956. From 1993 to 2005 the two countries played each other as part of the Four Nations Team Championship, a competition which also involved Canada and Japan, while from 2007 to 2012 it was played as part of the Trans Tasman Cup. In 2016 the trophy was contested using scores from the two qualifying rounds of the Australian Amateur. Format Except for the final event in 2016, the tournament was match-play. Peter Fowler
Peter Randall Fowler (born 9 June 1959) is an Australian golfer who plays on the PGA Tour of Australasia and European Senior Tour. Career Fowler was born in Hornsby, New South Wales. He turned professional in 1977 and won the Australian Open in 1983. He has spent a large part of his career playing on the European Tour, where he made the top one hundred on the Order of Merit every year from 1983 to 1993, with a best ranking of 22nd in 1989. His only European Tour win came at the 1993 BMW International Open in Germany. After struggling for form in through the mid and late nineties Fowler enjoyed something of an Indian summer between 2002 and 2004, returning to the top hundred for those three seasons, and recording his best finish in The Open Championship in 2003 when he came joint 22nd.
