Osseo Marching Band Festival
The Osseo Marching Band Festival is an annual street marching competition in Osseo, Minnesota, featuring some of the finest high school bands in the northern midwestern United States. The competition, which begins at noon, and the post-competition awards ceremony are free for the public to attend. How it works High school bands march through the city streets on a predetermined route (called a performance route) past a warm-up area, a judging area, a television area and then the finale area. After all of the bands have performed, an awards ceremony is held in the Osseo High School Stadium. A trophy and prize money is awarded to each of the first three places in each competition class. Trophies are also awarded to the best overall Color guard (flag spinning), colorguard, drumline, woodwind, winds and the grand champion. High school marching bands apply to compete each year. Osseo, Minnesota
Osseo is a small city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 2,688. It is said that "Osseo" derives from the Ojibwe name ''waaseyaa'' meaning "there is light" (more commonly translated as "Son of the Evening Star"). Color Guard (flag Spinning)
Color guards or flag corps are teams of performers who perform choreographed dances and routines with various equipment to enhance and interpret the music of a marching band or drum and bugle corps show. Color guard teams can be found in American colleges, universities, high schools, middle schools and independent drum corps. They use various equipment including flags, non-functioning rifles, and sabres, along with other props. Most Color Guard groups are of mixed gender but some may also be single gender. They perform using their equipment (flag, rifle, saber, prop, etc.) and emotional connections (facial expressions and dance and sometimes voice) to the audience to enhance the meaning and feeling of their show. Drumline
Marching percussion instruments are instruments specially designed to be played while moving. This is achieved by attaching the drum(s) to a special harness (also called a carrier or rack) worn by the drummer, although not all marching bands use such harnesses and instead use traditional baldrics to sling their drums (the British Armed Forces, for instance, still use the old style of slung drums). Woodwind

Vikingland Band Festival
The Vikingland Band Festival parade marching championship is held annually in Alexandria, Minnesota on the last Sunday of June. The event was founded in 1985 and is widely regarded as the midwest's biggest and most prestigious summer marching band competition. It is often regarded as the unofficial state championship for parade marching in Minnesota. The parade features only marching bands. It does not include floats or other units commonly associated with parades. Bands march at a three-block interval to prevent their music from blending together. Alexandria's extra-wide main street provides a venue for the performances. A panel of six judges provides taped feedback and scores for each band.
