Oshikoto
Oshikoto is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia, named after Lake Otjikoto. Its capital is Omuthiya. The city of Tsumeb, Otjikoto's capital until 2008, and the towns of Omuthiya and Oniipa are also situated in this region. , Oshikoto had 112,170 registered voters. Geography Oshikoto Region is named after Lake Otjikoto near its former capital Tsumeb. Oshikoto is one of only three regions without either a shoreline or a foreign border. It borders the following regions: *Ohangwena - north *Kavango West - east *Otjozondjupa - southeast * Kunene - southwest *Oshana - west Demographics The region's population has grown significantly over recent years, partly as a result of redistribution within the Oshiwambo-speaking area. Omuthiyagwiipundi Constituency
Omuthiyagwiipundi Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Oshikoto Region of Namibia. It had 21,884 inhabitants in 2004 and 15,220 registered voters . The constituency contains the settlements of Omuthiya and Iipundi. The area is predominantly rural. Politics Omuthiyagwiipundi constituency is traditionally a stronghold of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) party. As in all constituencies in Oshikoto, SWAPO won the 2015 regional election by a landslide. Samuel Panduleni Shivute gained 5,092 votes, while the only opposition candidate Epafras Nghinamundova of the Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) gained 239. Councillor Shivute (SWAPO) was re-elected with 3,759 votes in the 2020 regional election. The only opposition candidate, David Uusiku of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), a party formed in August 2020, obtained 2,113 votes. Omuntele Constituency
Omuntele Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Oshikoto Region on the northern part of Namibia. It had 21,884 inhabitants in 2004 and 9,854 registered voters . The district capital is the settlement of Omuntele. The constituency is situated in the northwest part of Oshikoto about 60 km southeast of Ondangwa. The constituency is currently led by Sakeus 'Sacky' Nangula, councillor for SWAPO. It is dominated by Oshiwambo speaking people and a small number San people. People in the area survive in cultivating crops. Mahangu is the principal crop in the area. History The area was established by Silvanus Nyambali Nehale, son of Ondonga Chief Nehale Mpingana. During the Namibian War of Independence many people from this area went into exile to Angola and took up arms there. Eengodi Constituency is an electoral constituency in the Oshikoto Region of Namibia. It had 14,995 inhabitants in 2004 and 7,740 registered voters . Politics Eengodi constituency is traditionally a stronghold of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) party. The councillor for Eengodi constituency has been Walde Sheyavali from 1992 to 2017. Omuthiya
Omuthiyagwiipundi (short: Omuthiya) is the capital of Oshikoto Region in northern Namibia, situated approximately from Etosha National Park. It has about 5,000 residents. Prior to Omuthiya, Tsumeb was the regional capital. The town has been proclaimed in October 2007 and the Omuthiya Town Council established in September 2008. Local authority elections Omuthiya is governed by a town council that has seven seats. Oshikoto Region, to which Omuthiya belongs, is a stronghold of Namibia's ruling SWAPO party. In February 2008, the town was the center of an election controversy as SWAPO faced the Rally for Democracy and Progress in the town's first local authority election. Penda Ya Ndakolo
Jafet Penda Ya Ndakolo (born 23 March 1960 at Oshigambo) is a Namibian SWAPO politician and current governor of Oshikoto Region. He served as Minister of Defence from 2015 to 2020. After losing his position as minister in 2020 he was appointed to his old position as governor again. Ya Ndakolo fought for the Peoples Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN). He studied at the Eastern and Southern Management Institute (ESAMA), and was from 1980 to 1989 a specialist in radio communication warfare. He was a SWAPO district coordinator between 1990 and 1992 before getting elected as Regional Councillor for Omuthiya Gwiipundi Constituency in Oshikoto Region, eventually being elevated as the Region's governor. He replaced Nico Kaiyamo as a member of the National Council in 2004. Kunene Region
Kunene is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia. Its capital is Opuwo, its governor is Marius Sheya. The region's name comes from the Kunene River which forms the northern border with Angola. Oniipa
Oniipa is a town in the Oshikoto Region of northern Namibia and the district capital of the Oniipa electoral constituency. It lies just outside Ondangwa. It is the hometown of former Lutheran bishop and liberation leader Leonard Auala. There is also the well-known old church hospital called Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital, which was named after the first female nurse. Oniipa is also known with the history during the struggle of independence of this country, as the best-known printing shop was burnt down by the Boers. The Oniipa Training School is located in town.
