Oscillator (EP)
''Oscillator'' is an EP by Information Society. It was their first new commercial release after six-year break. This six-song record uses the vocal stylings of newcomer Christopher Anton, as well as a range of intriguing guests and remixers. In addition to four mixes of the underground hit "Back in the Day", there is a live recording of "Great Big Disco World", made at Club Milky Robot in Osaka, Japan, in 2006. Online release ''Oscillator'' was released March 19, 2007, as an Internet-only EP, offered for purchase through a variety of web-based music retailers including iTunes, Napster and Rhapsody. Information Society (band)
Information Society (also known as InSoc) is an American band from Minneapolis–St. Paul, Minnesota, initially active from 1982 to 1997, primarily consisting of Kurt Harland Larson, Paul Robb, and James Cassidy; the latter two reconvened the band in 2006, initially with Christopher Anton as lead vocalist, then with Harland rejoining them as lead vocalist by 2008. The group's breakout single was 1988's "What's on Your Mind (Pure Energy)", a dance song which spent 39 weeks on the dance chart, going straight to number one and would also peak at number three on the Hot 100 pop chart. The track included a vocal sample of Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) from ''Star Trek'', saying "pure energy". Napster
Napster was a peer-to-peer file sharing application. It originally launched on June 1, 1999, with an emphasis on digital audio file distribution. Audio songs shared on the service were typically encoded in the MP3 format. It was founded by Shawn Fanning, Sean Parker, and Hugo Sáez Contreras. As the software became popular, the company ran into legal difficulties over copyright infringement. It ceased operations in 2001 after losing a wave of lawsuits and filed for bankruptcy in June 2002. Later, more decentralized projects followed Napster's P2P file-sharing example, such as Gnutella, Freenet, FastTrack, and Soulseek. Some services and software, like AudioGalaxy, LimeWire, Scour, Kazaa / Grokster, Madster, and eDonkey2000, were also brought down or changed due to copyright issues. Vitamin C (artist)
Colleen Ann Fitzpatrick (born July 20, 1972), better known by her stage name Vitamin C, is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actress. She began her career as an Ivory soap baby and child actress, appearing in John Waters' film ''Hairspray'' (1988), and continued to appear in minor roles in films before starting the alternative rock band Eve's Plum in 1991. In 1999, Fitzpatrick embarked on a solo career under the name Vitamin C, releasing her eponymous debut album ''Vitamin C'' (1999), which was certified Platinum by the RIAA. Kurt Harland
Kurt Harland is an American singer, songwriter, and audio engineer and is the lead singer of Information Society. He also works on video game scores, including two of the soundtracks for the ''Legacy of Kain'' video game series ('' Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver'' and ''Soul Reaver 2'' in collaboration with Jim Hedges). Personal life Kurt has stated he started performing and making music with Information Society at age 19, back in 1982. James Cassidy (musician)
James Cassidy, also known as Creepy Cassidy and Jim Pedo, is an American musician and educator who is one of the founding members of the band Information Society (InSoc). He played bass and keyboards with the band from its beginning in the early 1980s until 1992, when the group released its final album as a trio, '' Peace & Love, Inc.'' After the band dissolved, Cassidy left the music business and enrolled at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon, earning an Associate of Science degree in fisheries technology. He earned a bachelor's degree in fisheries science and a master's degree in crop and soil science from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.
