The California Golden Bears football program represents the University of California, Berkeley in college football as a member of the Pac-12 Conference at the NCAA Division I, NCAA Division I FBS level. The team plays its home games at California Memorial Stadium and is coached by Justin Wilcox (American football), Justin Wilcox. Since beginning of play in 1886, the team has won five NCAA recognized College football national championships in NCAA Division I FBS, national titles - 1920, 1921, 1922, 1923, and 1937 and 14 Pac-12 Conference, conference championships, the last one in 2006. American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. 1886 College Football Season
The 1886 college football season had no clear-cut champion, with the ''Official NCAA Division I Football Records Book'' listing Princeton and Yale as having been selected national champions. The game started late due to the absence of a referee, and heavy rain caused the game to be called on account of darkness with Yale leading 4–0 in the second half.
