Oscar Richard Hundley
Oscar Richard Hundley (October 30, 1855 – December 22, 1921) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. Education and career Born in Limestone County, Alabama, Hundley received a Bachelor of Laws from Vanderbilt University Law School in 1877. He was in private practice of law in Huntsville, Alabama from 1878 to 1907, serving as a division counsel to the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railway from 1884 to 1907. He was city attorney of Huntsville from 1886 to 1890. He was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from 1886 to 1890, and of the Alabama Senate from 1890 to 1898. From 1906 to 1907, he was an Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama. The United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama (in case citations, N.D. Ala.) is a federal court in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, Eleventh Circuit (except for patent claims and claims against the U.S. government under the Tucker Act, which are appealed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, Federal Circuit). The District was established on March 10, 1824, with the division of the state into a Northern and United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama, Southern district. In the history of the United States, there have been approximately 32 unsuccessful recess appointments to United States federal courts. 22 individuals have been appointed to a United States federal court through a recess appointment who were thereafter rejected by the United States Senate when their name was formally submitted in nomination, either by a vote rejecting the nominee, or by the failure of the Senate to act on the nomination. These individuals served as federal judges, having full authority to hold office and issue rulings, until their rejection by the Senate. Five individuals were appointed but resigned either before the Senate voted on their nomination, or before a formal nomination was even submitted.
