Old Norse
Old Norse, Old Nordic, or Old Scandinavian, is a stage of development of North Germanic languages, North Germanic dialects before their final divergence into separate Nordic languages. Samuel Duffield Osborne (1858 – 1917) was an American writer. He was born on June 20, 1858 in Brooklyn, New York. He was a son of Samuel Smith and Rosalie Willoughby (Duffield) Osborne; grandson of Samuel and Abbie M. (Theall) Osborne, and of James Murdoch and Margaretha A. (Prince) duffield, and a descendant of George Duffield, who emigrated from Ireland to Pequea Township, Pennsylvania, in 1720, and of Carel de Beauvais, who emigrated from France and settled in New York in 1659. Osborne attended the Polytechnic University of New York and was a graduate from Columbia College (New York), A.G., 1879, A.M., 1882, and from the Columbia Law School, LL.B., 1881. Dorothy Osborne
Dorothy Osborne, Lady Temple (1627–1695) was a British writer of letters and wife of Sir William Temple, 1st Baronet. Life Osborne was born at Chicksands Priory, Bedfordshire, England, the youngest of twelve children of Sir Peter Osborne, Lieutenant-Governor of the Isle of Guernsey under King Charles I, by his wife Dorothy Danvers, a sister of Sir John Danvers the regicide. The Osbornes were a staunchly Royalist family. After refusing a long string of suitors put forth by her family, including her cousin Thomas Osborne, 1st Duke of Leeds, Henry Cromwell (son of Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell) and Sir Justinian Isham, in 1654 Dorothy Osborne married Sir William Temple, a man with whom she had carried on a lengthy clandestine courtship that was largely epistolary in nature. Daphne J. Osborne (7 March 1930 – 16 June 2006) was a British botanist. Her research in the field of plant physiology spanned five decades and resulted in over two hundred papers, twenty of which were published in ''Nature''. Her obituary in ''The Times'' described her scientific achievements as "legendary"; that from the Botanical Society of America attributed her success to "her wonderful intellectual style, combined with her proclivity for remarkable and perceptive experimental findings". Her research focused on plant hormones, seed biology and plant DNA repair. She is best known for her work on the gas ethylene, in particular for demonstrating that ethylene is a natural plant hormone, and that it is the major regulator of ageing and the shedding of leaves and fruits. Curtis Osborne
Curtis Osborne (March 1970 – June 4, 2008) was an American convicted murderer on death row in Georgia from Spalding County. He murdered Arthur Lee Jones and Linda Lisa Seaborne in 1990 to avoid paying a $400 debt. Johnny Mostiler, his court-appointed attorney, allegedly neglected to inform Osborne that the prosecutor had offered him a life sentence in exchange for a plea bargain, declaring "That little nigger deserves the death penalty." Osborne's case for clemency was championed by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former Deputy U.S. Attorney General Larry Thompson, who wrote letters to the clemency board pleading for mercy. Former U.S. Attorney General Griffin Bell also spoke on his behalf. His execution was carried out despite these appeals. Colin Osborne (born 19 June 1975) is an English professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. In 2009, he won the Championship League and reached the final of the UK Open. Darts career Osborne has won two PDC Pro Tour events and he also managed to hit two perfect nine-dart finishes in 2005. The first one of these came in the Players Championship in the Isle of Wight and a second one followed at the non-televised qualifying rounds for the 2005 World Matchplay. Chuck Osborne (American Football)
Charles Wayne Osborne Jr. (November 2, 1973 – October 16, 2012) was an American football defensive tackle who played five seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the St. Louis Rams and Oakland Raiders. He was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in the seventh round of the 1996 NFL Draft. The 1996 NFL combine scored "Chuck" the strongest at 33 reps (225 lb). He played college football at the University of Arizona with the famed "Desert Swarm" defense and attended Canyon High School in Santa Clarita, California. Charles H. Osborne (January 21, 1939 – April 17, 1979) was an American professional basketball player. He played college basketball for Western Kentucky University and played in the National Basketball Association for the Syracuse Nationals. In four career NBA games, he averaged 1.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists. Osborne was killed in an automobile accident on April 17, 1979.
