Osage Community School District
Osage Community School District is a rural public school district headquartered in Osage, Iowa. The district occupies sections of Mitchell and Floyd counties, and in addition to Osage, it includes Mitchell and Orchard. In 2015, Barb Schwamman became the superintendent of the Osage district. She also jointly became superintendent of the Riceville Community School District, and was nominated for the 2019-20 Iowa Superintendent of the Year award. Floyd County, Iowa
Floyd County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,627. The county seat is Charles City. History Floyd County was established in 1854 and was named for Sergeant Charles Floyd of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, who died in 1804 near what is now Sioux City, Iowa, and who was the only member to die on the Expedition. The first school in the county was taught at Nora Springs in 1854. The second was opened at Charles City, the third at Floyd. Orchard, Iowa
Orchard is a city in Mitchell County, Iowa, United States. The population was 68 at the time of the 2020 census. History Orchard got its start in the year 1869, following construction of the Illinois Central Railroad through that territory. It was named for Moses Orchard, a pioneer settler. Lithograph City The ghost town of Lithograph City, approximately two miles southwest of Orchard, was founded in the early 1900s adjacent to quarries that produced lithographic limestone. Production in these quarries peaked during World War I when access to German lithographic limestone was cut off. In 1915, Lithograph City had 15 houses, a hotel, a dance hall and a museum. The Riceville Community School District is a rural public school district serving the town of Riceville and surrounding areas in eastern Mitchell County and western Howard County. The school, which serves all grade levels PreK-12 in one building, is located at 912 Woodlawn in Riceville.
