Orzinuovi Altarpiece
The Orzinuovi Altarpiece or ''Enthroned Madonna and Child with Saints Dominic, Joseph, Vincent Ferrer, Lucy and a Commissioner'' is a 1525–1530 oil on canvas painting by Moretto da Brescia on the wall of the chancel of the church of San Domenico in Orzinuovi. It dates to the artist's early mature years and may be identifiable with the work recorded in the parish church in the town by Francesco Paglia in 1675 as "a painting in which one can admire the Mary, mother of Jesus, Most Holy Virgin with the Christ Child, Christ-Child, St Peter and other saints, a singular work by Moretto".Pier Virgilio Begni Redona, pag. 218 However, the subjects clearly refer to it being commissioned by the Dominican order, Dominicans, which seems to suggest that the work has always been in the church of San Domenico and that the work is not that mentioned by Paglia, with a temporary transfer to the parish church seemingly unlikely. The altarpiece also does not include Saint Peter – Paglia may have b ...

In art, the term ''painting ''describes both the act and the result of the action (the final work is called "a painting"). The support for paintings includes such surfaces as walls, paper, canvas, wood, glass, lacquer, pottery, leaf, copper and concrete, and the painting may incorporate multiple other materials, including sand, clay, paper, plaster, gold leaf, and even whole objects. Vincenzo Foppa
Vincenzo Foppa ( – ) was an Italian painter from the Renaissance period. While few of his works survive, he was an esteemed and influential painter during his time and is considered the preeminent leader of the Early Lombard School. He spent his career working for the Sforza family, Dukes of Milan, in Pavia, as well as various other patrons throughout Lombardy and Liguria. He lived and worked in his native Brescia during his later years. Early life Very little is known about the early life and training of Foppa. He was born in Bagnolo Mella, a small commune near the city of Brescia. At the time, there were few esteemed painters in the region, and the art scene in Brescia was lacking. It is therefore likely that Foppa had to seek artistic training elsewhere. Some of his earliest exposures to art were likely frescoes painted by Gentile da Fabriano in the Broletto Chapel in Brescia and the woven ''Annunciation'' by Jacopo Bellini. The latter artist was one of the strongest influen ...
