Birgitt Ory
Birgitt Ory (born 1964) is a German diplomat. From 2019 till 2022 she has served as the German Ambassador to Nigeria. Ory was the first woman to serve as Director General of the German Institute Taipei in Taiwan, a post she held from 2008 to 2011. Early life and education Ory was born in Lübeck in 1964. She graduated from high school in Neustadt in Holstein in 1983 and went on to study political science, communications, and German literature at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where she graduated summa cum laude. Career Ory was assigned her first diplomatic post by the Federal Foreign Office in 1990 as an attachée at the Diplomatic Academy in Bonn, also working at the École nationale d'administration and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The following year she was assigned a job in the German Foreign Office's Department of Economics and Humanitarian Aid. Carlos Edmundo De Ory
Carlos Edmundo de Ory (April 27, 1923 – November 11, 2010), born in the Spanish city of Cadiz, was a Spanish avant-garde poet. He was a son of Eduardo de Ory, who was a modernist poet and founder of the ''Academia Hispanoamericana de Cádiz'' (Cadiz's Spanish American Society). In the circle of friends of Eduardo de Ory were poets as Salvador Rueda, Amado Nervo, Juan Ramón Jíménez, Manuel Reina and Rubén Darío. Ory was fundamental in modernizing post-Spanish Civil War poetry by creating work that engaged major twentieth-century European avant-gardes such as Futurism, Dadaism, and Surrealism. He, along with Eduardo Chicharro and the Italian poet Silvano Sernesi, was the co-founder of a poetry movement called Postismo ( Postism). Postism consisted of a loose group of writers creating work that valued language play and was set against the neo-romanticism of Spain’s official literary culture. Gisèle Ory
Gisèle Ory (born 30 April 1956 in Biel/Bienne) is a politician from the Canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. She is a member of the Socialist Party. Gisèle Ory graduated from the University of Lausanne (political sciences) in 1978. In 1996, she was elected to the Communal Council of Neuchâtel, the local Parliament. In 2001 she was elected to the National Council. From 2001 to 2002 she was Chairwoman of the Neuchâtel section of the SP, but had to leave because of her nomination as spokeswoman of the Federal Department of the Interior. Kid Ory
Edward "Kid" Ory (December 25, 1886 – January 23, 1973) was an American jazz composer, trombonist and bandleader. One of the early users of the glissando technique, he helped establish it as a central element of New Orleans jazz. He was born near LaPlace, Louisiana and moved to New Orleans on his 21st birthday, to Los Angeles in 1910 and to Chicago in 1925. The Ory band later was an important force in reviving interest in New Orleans jazz, making radio broadcasts on ''The Orson Welles Almanac'' program in 1944, among other shows. In 1944–45, the group made a series of recordings for the Crescent label, which was founded by Nesuhi Ertegun for the express purpose of recording Ory's band. Ory retired from music in 1966 and spent his last years in Hawaii. Matthieu Ory
Matthieu Ory (1492 at Caulnes – 1557 at Paris) was a French Dominican theologian and Inquisitor. Life Entering the Dominican Order at the age of eighteen, he studied in the convent of St-Jacques, Paris, and at the Sorbonne, obtaining the licentiate in theology, 6 February 1527. His reputation for learning and eloquence led to his appointment as grand inquisitor for France (1534), an office which he held until his death. Compelled to pronounce upon false accusations made against Ignatius Loyola and "The Spiritual", he detected the fraud. Instead of condemning Loyola, he praised and assisted him, and kept for himself a copy of the ''Exercises''. He was indefatigable in preaching, and held several offices in his order. Michel Ory (born 18 April 1966) is a Swiss amateur astronomer and a prolific discoverer of minor planets and comets. Biography Ory was born in Develier, in the district of Delémont in the canton of Jura in Switzerland. He attended school in Delémont, and at the cantonal school in Porrentruy, then studied at the University of Geneva, graduating in physics in 1990. He trained as a scientific journalist at Cedos SA in Carouge, qualifying in 1992, then undertook teacher training at the Institut pédagogique in Porrentruy, qualifying as a secondary school teacher in 1994, then becoming a physics teacher at the cantonal school in Porrentruy, a position which he continues to hold in 2012. Pascal Ory (born 31 July 1948) is a French historian. A student of René Rémond, he specialises in cultural and political history and has written on Fascism ever since his master's dissertation on the Greenshirts of Henri Dorgères. In the 1970s, he contributed to a better definition of cultural history. Ory is a professor at the Université de Paris-I-Panthéon-Sorbonne. He is president of the Association pour le développement de l'histoire culturelle (ADHC) and regent of the Collège de 'Pataphysique.
