Orrie Baragwanath Pass
Orrie Baragwanath Pass is situated in the Limpopo Province on the unnumbered road between Ofcolaco and Lebowakgomo (South Africa). The pass has a steep paved ascent from the east up the slopes of the far northern Drakensberg mountains to a height of 1370 m above sea level. From the west there is an equally steep but unpaved ascent with a fairly flat unpaved section of approximately 10 kilometers along the summit between the two approaches. Although most of the pass is located in the Lekgalameetse Provincial Park Lekgalameetse Provincial Park is a conserved mountain wilderness of 18,718 ha in the northern Drakensberg of Limpopo Province, South Africa. Limpopo
Limpopo is the northernmost province of South Africa. It is named after the Limpopo River, which forms the province's western and northern borders. Ofcolaco is a tiny village situated in the Limpopo province of South Africa that was named after the Officers Colonial Land Company and formed by demobilised British army officers after the First World War. Lebowakgomo
Lebowakgomo is the seat of the Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality and was the capital of the former Bantustan of Lebowa. Lebowakgomo lies 45 km southeast of the Limpopo capital of Polokwane. The majority of Lebowakgomo's inhabitants speak SePedi. History The township was established in the early 1970s to become the capital of Lebowa, and was enlarged and developed in the 1980s. The name is derived from two Northern Sotho words ''Lebowa'' ("north") and ''Kgomo'' ("cow"). Drakensberg
The Drakensberg (Afrikaans: Drakensberge, Zulu: uKhahlambha, Sotho: Maluti) is the eastern portion of the Great Escarpment, which encloses the central Southern African plateau. The Great Escarpment reaches its greatest elevation – within the border region of South Africa and Lesotho. The Drakensberg escarpment stretches for more than from the Eastern Cape Province in the South, then successively forms, in order from south to north, the border between Lesotho and the Eastern Cape and the border between Lesotho and KwaZulu-Natal Province. Lekgalameetse Provincial Park
Lekgalameetse Provincial Park is a conserved mountain wilderness of 18,718 ha in the northern Drakensberg of Limpopo Province, South Africa. The reserve entrance is 5 km by dirt road from Ofcolaco. Indigenous forest and mixed woodland occupy the valleys, while the mountain crests are covered in grassland. In the north the Park is contiguous with the Wolkberg Wilderness Area. Amenities and access During the 1980s it was envisaged by the Lebowa government as a 25,000 ha reserve called The Downs Nature Reserve, which would cater recreational activities, camping and hiking. Since 2001 it is managed by the Limpopo Tourism and Parks Board. Current amenities include self-catering accommodation, a bush camp with log cabins beside a stream, farmhouses serving as guest houses, and a camp for school outings.
