Orneus
In Greek mythology, Orneus (; Ancient Greek: Ὀρνεύς) may refer to two different personages: * Orneus, an Athenian prince as the son of King ErechtheusPausanias, 2.25.6; Plutarch, ''Theseus'' 32.1; Stephanus of Byzantium, s.v. Orneiai'' Eusebius, ''Chronographia'66 and probably Praxithea, daughter of Phrasimus and Diogeneia. His possible siblings were Protogeneia, Pandora, Creusa, Procris, Oreithyia, Chthonia, Merope, Cecrops, Pandorus, Metion, Thespius, Eupalamus and Sicyon. Orneus was the father of Peteus and through the latter became the grandfather of Menestheus, successor of Theseus. The town of Orneae is believed to be named after him. Erechtheus
Erechtheus (; grc, Ἐρεχθεύς) in Greek mythology was the name of an archaic king of Athens, the founder of the ''polis'' and, in his role as god, attached to Poseidon, as "Poseidon Erechtheus". The mythic Erechtheus and the historical Erechtheus were fused into one character in Euripides' lost tragedy ''Erechtheus'' (423–22 BC). The name Erichthonius is carried by a son of Erechtheus, but Plutarch conflated the two names in the myth of the begetting of Erechtheus. Orneae
Orneae or Orneai ( grc, Ὀρνέαι) was a town in ancient Argolis, mentioned by Homer in the Catalogue of Ships in the ''Iliad'', which is said to have derived its name from Orneus, the son of Erechtheus. Orneae retained its ancient Cynurian inhabitants, when Argos was conquered by the Dorians. According to Pausanias, it continued independent of Argos for a long time; but it was finally conquered by the Argives, who removed the Orneatae to their own city. Thucydides mentions the Orneatae and Cleonaei as allies (σύμμαχοι) of the Argives in 418 BCE; and the same historian relates that Orneae was destroyed by the Argives in 416 BCE. It might therefore be inferred that the destruction of Orneae by the Argives in 416 BCE is the event referred to by Pausanias. Menestheus
In Greek mythology, Menestheus (; Ancient Greek: Μενεσθεύς) was a legendary king of Athens during the Trojan War. He was set up as king by the twins Castor and Pollux when Theseus travelled to the Underworld after abducting their sister, Helen, and exiled Theseus from the city after his return. Metion
In Greek mythology, Metion (; Ancient Greek: Μητίων, ''gen''. Μητίονος) was an Athenian prince as the son of King Erechtheus and Praxithea, daughter of Phrasimus and Diogeneia. Family Metion was the brother of Cecrops, Pandorus, Protogeneia, Pandora, Creusa, Procris, Oreithyia and Chthonia. His other possible siblings were Merope, Orneus, Thespius, Eupalamus and Sicyon. In some account, Metion's father was Eupalamus, son of Erechtheus, instead. He had sons known collectively as the Metionadae which probably include Eupalamus, Sicyon, and Daedalus (his son by Iphinoe). These mentioned sons are sometimes credited with other parentages. Chthonia
In Greek mythology, the name Chthonia (Ancient Greek: Χθωνία means 'of the earth') may refer to: *Chthonia, an Athenian princess and the youngest daughter of King Erechtheus and Praxithea, daughter of Phrasimus and Diogeneia. She was sacrificed by her father who had received a prophecy according to which he could win the imminent battle against Eumolpus only if he sacrificed his daughter. Her sisters who had sworn to kill themselves if one of them died, fulfilled their oath by throwing themselves off a cliff. According to the dictionary ''Suda'', only two of the sisters, Protogeneia and Pandora, did commit suicide which made sense, since of the other daughters of Erechtheus, Orithyia had been abducted by Boreas, Procris married off to Cephalus, and Creusa was still a baby at the time the oath had been sworn. Procris
In Greek mythology, Procris ( grc, Πρόκρις, ''gen''.: Πρόκριδος) was an Athenian princess as the third daughter of Erechtheus, king of Athens and his wife, Praxithea, daughter of Phrasimus and Diogeneia. Homer mentions her in the ''Odyssey'' as one of the many dead spirits Odysseus saw in the Underworld, and Sophocles wrote a tragedy called ''Procris'' which has been lost, as has a version contained in the Greek Cycle, but at least six different accounts of her story still exist. In Greek mythology, Creusa (; Ancient Greek: Κρέουσα ''Kreousa'' "princess" ) was an Athenian princess. Family Creusa was the youngest daughter of Erechtheus, King of Athens and his wife, Praxithea, daughter of Phrasimus and Diogeneia.
