Augustus Orlebar
Air Vice Marshal Augustus Henry Orlebar, (17 February 1897 – 4 August 1943) was a British Army and Royal Air Force officer who served in both world wars. After being wounded during the Gallipoli campaign, Orlebar was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps and subsequently the Royal Air Force (RAF). He formally transferred to the RAF after the First World War and between the wars was involved in high speed flying, commanding the High Speed Flight RAF, competing in the Schneider Trophy, and holding the world air speed record. By the outbreak of the Second World War Orlebar was in command of RAF Northolt. He briefly became Director of Flying Training in 1940 before going to HQ RAF Fighter Command. In July 1941 he became Air Officer Commanding, No. 10 (Fighter) Group, and in March 1943 Deputy Chief of Combined Operations. He fell ill, and died in hospital on 4 August 1943. Diana Astry
Diana Astry, (baptized 2 January 1671 – 4 December 1716) was an English diarist and compiler of a recipe book containing 375 recipes acquired from a number of sources including family and friends. Biography Astry lived at the Great House, Henbury, Gloucestershire, with her parents, Sir Samuel and Lady Elizabeth Astry, and her siblings, Elizabeth, Ann, Arabella, Luke and St John. Her father died in 1704, and in 1707, when their widowed mother married Sir Simon Harcourt, Diana Astry and her sister Arabella moved to Pendley, Hertfordshire. In 1708, Astry married Richard Orlebar. She was an heiress with a fortune of £7000 who inherited even more money when her mother died 20 days after the wedding. The couple moved back to Henbury until the completion of their home, Hinwick House at Podington in Bedfordshire, in 1714. Diana Orlebar died childless two years later. Christopher Orlebar
Christopher John Dugmore Orlebar (4 February 1945 – 24 February 2018) was a former British Concorde pilot with British Airways. He was well known as a lecturer, writer, and frequent contributor to TV aviation documentaries on aviation subjects generally, and on the Concorde in particular. Orlebar, the son of Brigadier John Orlebar, was educated at Twyford School, Rugby School and Southampton University. He learned to fly in 1965 with the Southampton University Air Squadron ( RAF), and then finished his training in civil aviation at the College of Air Training at Hamble. Orlebar joined BOAC (later British Airways) in 1969, and became a VC10 pilot, navigator and instructor. He became a Concorde pilot and instructor in 1976, flying the aircraft for 10 years. He went on to become a training Captain on the Boeing 737 from 1986 and retired from British Airways in 2000. John Orlebar
John Orlebar (1697–1765), of Hinwick House, Bedfordshire, was a British lawyer and Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1727 to 1734. Orlebar was the only son of John Orlebar of Red Lion Square London, master in Chancery, and his wife Elizabeth, Whitfield. daughter of John Whitfield of Ives Place, Maidenhead, Berkshire. He was educated at Eton College from 1707 to 1715. He was admitted at Middle Temple on 26 November 1707 and matriculated from King's College, Cambridge at Easter 1715. On 27 May 1720, he was called to the bar. In 1721, he succeeded his father. He married Mary Rolt, daughter of Samuel Rolt, MP of Milton Ernest, Bedfordshire, on 29 December 1729. Hinwick House Orlebar was returned in a contest as a Whig Member of Parliament for Bedford at the 1727 British general election. He voted with the Administration in all recorded divisions.
