Orlando And Winter Park Railway
The East Florida and Atlantic Railroad was a railroad line from Orlando, Florida, northeast and east to Lake Jesup via Winter Park and Oviedo. It eventually became part of the Seaboard Air Line Railway system, and was most recently part of CSX before being abandoned. Until April 9, 1891, the line was owned by two separate companies, the Orlando and Winter Park Railway (west of Lakemont station, incorporated November 20, 1886, colloquially known as the Dinky Line) and the Osceola and Lake Jessup Railway (incorporated January 23, 1889). In 1894, the railroad was merged into the Florida Central and Peninsular Railroad, which became part of the SAL in 1902. The part west of Winter Park was abandoned before the rest, which became part of CSX's former Aloma Branch, connected to the main line at Sanford, Florida. Cross Seminole Trail
The Cross Seminole Trail is a pedestrian, bicycle, and equestrian trail in Seminole County, Florida just north of Orlando. The first segment opened in 2002. The current route begins at the intersection of Aloma and Howell Branch where it meets the Cady Way Trail in Winter Park through Oviedo and Winter Springs and stretches into Lake Mary. The trail is long, or including the Orange County trail extension. The trail connects to Seminole Wekiva Trail in Lake Mary. History The Cross Seminole Trail runs along the former right of way of the Sanford and Indian River Railroad from Winter Springs to Oviedo. Cady Way Trail
The Cady Way Trail is a rail trail in the Orlando, Florida area opened in 1994. It is partly owned by the Orlando Department of Families, Parks and Recreation and partly by Orange County Parks and Recreation. The project was awarded a $1,750,000 Transportation Enhancement grant by the Federal Highway Administration and the Florida Department of Transportation, and a $483,000 grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Location The Cady Way Trail was constructed along the abandoned roadbed of the East Florida & Atlantic Railroad, which ran to the Naval Training Center Orlando. Winter Springs is a city in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 38,342 at the 2020 census. According to the 2019 Census Bureau estimates, the city has a population of 37,312. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Florida Central And Peninsular Railroad
The Florida Central and Peninsular Railroad was the final name of a system of railroads throughout Florida, becoming part of the Seaboard Air Line Railway in 1900. The system, including some of the first railroads in Florida, stretched from Jacksonville west through Tallahassee and south to Tampa. Much of the FC&P network is still in service under the ownership of CSX Transportation. History The Tallahassee Rail Road was first organized in 1832 as the Leon Railway, changing its name in 1834. It opened in 1837, connecting Tallahassee, Florida to the Gulf of Mexico port of St. Marks, Florida.
