The Orlando Mayhem is a football team in the Independent Women's Football League based in Orlando, Florida. Home games are played on the campus of East Ridge High School in nearby Clermont. From their inaugural season of 2002 until the middle of 2004, the Mayhem was known as the Orlando Starz. Independent Women's Football League
The Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) was the first Women's American football league established by women players for women players. The league was founded in 2000, began play in 2001, and played its last season in 2018. Members of the original roster of the Austin Outlaws were the league's founders. Following the establishment of the league as a separate entity from the team, former outlaws players Laurie Frederick, Jaime Bailey and Sandra Plato became the original IWFL executive council. East Ridge High School (Florida)
East Ridge High School is a school in Clermont, Florida and one of eight public high schools in Lake County. East Ridge is the largest school in Lake County. There are 2,486 Students enrolled as of December 2019. History East Ridge High School was constructed at 13322 Excalibur Road in 2002. It is currently the second newest high school in Lake County, Florida. The school was built to stop the overcrowding of their mother, now sister school, South Lake High School, which is located in Groveland. The Orlando Starz were a franchise in the Independent Women's Football League from 2000 to 2004 based in Orlando, Florida. The team won a Division championship in 2001, but struggled in 2003, compiling a 1-7 record. However, the Starz received worldwide attention due to Charlotte Chambers, at that time, a 69-year-old defensive back dubbed the "Gridiron Granny." The Pittsburgh Passion is a women's American football team based in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The franchise was formed in March 2002 and is currently owned by Teresa Conn, Anthony Misitano, and the estate of Franco Harris. The team is a part of the Women's Football Alliance, with home games played at West Allegheny High School in Imperial, Pennsylvania. History In 2003, the Passion played its home games at Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, Belle Vernon Area High School. The team finished its inaugural season with a 2–6 record. The average attendance at each of their four home games that season was between 2,500 and 3,000 fans. Miami Fury
The Miami Fury is a football team in the Women's Football Alliance. Based in Miami, Florida, the Fury plays its home games at Carter Park. History 2000 The Fury was formed as a charter member of the Women's Professional Football League when it started full-league play in 2000 (previously, it had just been a barnstorming venture between the Lake Michigan Minx and the Minnesota Vixen). The Fury were placed in the National Conference South Division alongside their in-state rivals the Daytona Beach Barracudas and the Tampa Tempest. Carolina Phoenix
The Carolina Phoenix is a football team in the Women's Football Alliance (WFA) based in the Triad of North Carolina. Home games are played at Simeon Stadium in High Point, North Carolina. After finishing 5–1 in their 2007 debut season as an X-Team, the Phoenix began full-time play in 2008 as a member of Tier II.
