Origo (stylised as ORIGO, previously as rigo'') is a major Hungarian-language news website founded in 1998 by telecommunications company MATÁV. In 2018, Origo was the third most visited Hungarian website. Since 2015, Origo has been regularly criticised by the left for its uncritical support of the Fidesz political party. Multiple critics described the website as "state-run propaganda", prone to operate with the same keywords for emotional mobilization as other news outlets with close ties to Fidesz. History 1998-2001: Foundation and early days Four former Magyar Narancs employees, Péter Nádori, Ferenc Pohly, György Simó and Balázs Weyer decided to start an online news website. ''Népszabadság'' (; means "Liberty of the People") was a major Hungarian newspaper which was formerly the official press organ of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party during the Hungarian People's Republic. History and profile ''Népszabadság'' was founded on 2 November 1956 during the Hungarian Revolution as successor of '' Szabad Nép'' (meaning ''Free People'' in English) which was established in 1942 as the central organ of the dissolved Hungarian Working People's Party. Péter Uj
Péter Uj is a Hungarian journalist who is the founder of 444.hu, and the co-founder and former editor-in-chief of Index.hu. Early life Uj was born in Szolnok. Both of his parents are teachers. Career Népszabadság Uj became an intern at Népszabadság in 1990, later becoming a full-time employee in 1993. While at Népszabadság, he also worked on other projects such as CD magazine ABCD, rock magazine Wanted, satirical magazine Hócipő, as well as working on documentaries and radio shows. He left the paper in 2000 when he became the editor-in-chief of Index.hu, although he stayed there as a columnist until the paper's eventual closure in October 2016, releasing an article on every Wednesday. Index.hu is a Hungarian news website covering both Hungarian and international news. In 2018, it was the most visited Hungarian website with an average of 1.5 million daily readers. While most of the website's articles are written in Hungarian, Index also publishes several articles in English every week. History 1995 to 1999: Internetto Index's predecessor, Internetto (often stylised as iNteRNeTTo) was founded in 1995 by Hungarian sociologist András Nyírő who also served as the website's first editor-in-chief. Internetto quickly rose to popularity, reaching 2000 readers a day by the summer of 1996, largely due to the website's coverage of IT-related news. The early days of Internetto also saw the launch of the site's own forum called Törzsasztal and several local editions such as iNTeRNeTTo.Szeged. György Matolcsy
György Matolcsy (born 18 July 1955, Budapest) is a Hungarian politician and economist, current governor of the Hungarian National Bank (MNB). He also served as Minister of Economy (2000–2002) during the first cabinet of Viktor Orbán and Minister of National Economy (2010–2013) in the Second Orbán Cabinet.
