Original Seeds
''Original Seeds: Songs that inspired Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds'' is a various artist compilation, which was initially released in June 1998. It was re-titled as ''Original Seeds Volume 1: Songs That Inspired Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds'' when the follow-up ''Original Seeds Volume 2: Songs That Inspired Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds'' appeared in 2004. Both appeared on the Rubber Records label in Australia and the United Kingdom. The liner notes by the producer, Kim Beissel, describe the link between each track and works by Australian musician, Nick Cave, generally with his group, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, the Bad Seeds throughout their related careers. Most tracks were directly cover version, covered by Cave, while some were adapted, or borrowed from, to form new songs. Wayne Shanklin (June 6, 1917 – June 16, 1970) was an American singer, songwriter and producer. His best known compositions were "Jezebel", " Chanson D'Amour (Song of Love)", and " The Big Hurt". Personal life Shanklin was born June 6, 1916, in Joplin, Missouri to Virra (Storrs) and Nathaniel Shanklin Jr. He had one brother, Nathaniel Noel, and one sister, Dorothy. "The Big Hurt" is a pop song that was a hit for Toni Fisher (billed as "Miss Toni Fisher") in 1959. The song was written by Wayne Shanklin. "The Big Hurt" is notable because it featured phasing effects which at that time were rare in popular music; DJ Dick Biondi on WKBW would introduce the record as "Toni Fisher's weird one." The Loved Ones (Australian Band)
The Loved Ones were an Australian rock band formed in 1965 in Melbourne following the British Invasion. The line-up of Gavin Anderson on drums, Ian Clyne on organ and piano, Gerry Humphrys on vocals and harmonica, Rob Lovett on guitar and Kim Lynch on bass guitar recorded their early hits. Their signature song, "The Loved One", reached number two on Australian singles charts and was later covered by INXS. In 2001 it was selected as number six on the Australasian Performing Right Association's (APRA) list of Top 30 Australian songs of all time. Their debut album, '' The Loved Ones' Magic Box'', was released late in 1967 and included their other hit singles, "Ever Lovin' Man" and "Sad Dark Eyes". Dan Folger (April 11, 1943 – March 23, 2006) was an American singer and songwriter. Born Dan Waren Folger in San Rafael, California, while he was a small boy his family moved to Midland, Texas, where he would make friends with future Roy Orbison collaborator Joe Melson. His and his friends' interest in music led to a move to Nashville, Tennessee, in the 1960s. There, under Don Gant, Folger wrote songs for Acuff-Rose Music including the song "Amy", which appeared on the 1969 album, ''Roy Orbison's Many Moods''. Other Folger compositions were recorded by Melson, Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, and Glass Bubble, among others. As a performer, Folger recorded four singles (eight songs) for Hickory Records between 1962 and 1966, and another single for Elf Records in 1967. Milton Sims "Mickey" Newbury Jr. (May 19, 1940 – September 29, 2002) was an American songwriter, recording artist, and a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Early life and career Newbury was born in Houston, Texas, on May 19, 1940, to Mamie Ellen (née Taylor) and Milton Newbury. As a teenager, Newbury sang tenor in a moderately successful vocal group called The Embers. The group opened for several famous performers, such as Sam Cooke and Johnny Cash. Although Newbury tried to make a living from his music by singing in clubs, he put his musical career on hold at age 19 when he joined the Air Force. Karen J. Dalton (born Jean Karen Cariker; July 19, 1937 – March 19, 1993) was an American country blues singer, guitarist, and banjo player. "Avalanche" is a song by Leonard Cohen. It appears on his third album, ''Songs of Love and Hate'', released in 1971. The lyrics are based on a poem he had previously written.
