Oregon Track Club
The Oregon Track Club (OTC) is an American running organization based in Eugene, Oregon. History Emerald Empire Athletic Association Formed by Bill Bowerman, the Emerald Empire Athletic Association (EEAA) was the predecessor to the Oregon Track Club. In 1948, Bill Bowerman became the assistant track coach at the University of Oregon, in Eugene, Oregon. In order to spur interest in running with the local community, Bowerman formed an all comers meet for grade-schoolers in 1949. The next year the meet was expanded to include high school and college athletes. The low turnout of the all comers meet caused Bowerman to want to increase his efforts in promoting track and field in Eugene. In 1958, with the help of Ray Hendrickson and Bob Newland, Bowerman established the Emerald Empire Athletic Association. Eugene, Oregon
Eugene ( ) is a city in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is located at the southern end of the Willamette Valley, near the confluence of the McKenzie and Willamette rivers, about east of the Oregon Coast. Bowerman Track Club
The Bowerman Track Club (BTC) is an American training group sponsored by Nike, Inc. for professional distance runners as well as a separate recreational club for casual runners. The professional team is supported by head coach Jerry Schumacher and assistant Pascal Dobert. The club maintains a rivalry with the competing Oregon Track Club, also sponsored by Nike, Inc. BTC athletes won three medals at the 2017 World Athletics Championships. The club is named after Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman. Margaret Bailes
Margaret Johnson Bailes (born January 23, 1951) is an American athlete who competed in the 100 and 200 meters. Early life Margaret Johnson Bailes was born in the Bronx. When she was five, she moved to Eugene, Oregon with her family after her father, Albert "Duke" Johnson, decided it would be a good place to raise his children. Athletic career When Bailes was 9, a chance attendance as a spectator to an athletics event at Hayward Field led her to meet Wendy Jerome, the wife of Harry Jerome. Wendy Jerome saw that Bailes had talent and soon became her coach. At 16 Bailes was one of the top U.S. sprinters with a fifth place in the 1967 AAU 200 m. Sheila Reid (athlete)
Sheila Reid (born August 2, 1989) is a Canadian track and field athlete who competes in cross country running, cross country, middle distance running, middle and long-distance running events. She competed collegiately at Villanova University. Reid won the 2010 and 2011 NCAA Women's Cross Country Championship, and in June 2011 became the first woman to win the 5000 m and the 1500 m at the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship. She won the Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female cross country runner in 2011, repeated as the best female cross country runner in 2012, and also won the Honda Sports Award for Track and field in 2012. Luke Puskedra
Luke Puskedra (born February 8, 1990) is an American long-distance runner who competes over distances ranging from 10,000 meters to the marathon. He grew up in Ogden, Utah and attended Judge Memorial Catholic High School before studying business administration at the University of Oregon. He competed for the Oregon Ducks track and field and cross country teams, earned 12 NCAA Division I All-American awards and was a 10,000 meter finalist at the NCAA level four years running from 2009 to 2012. Andrew Osagie
Andrew Osagie (born 19 February 1988 in Harlow, Essex) is an English athlete who specialises in the 800 metres. He represents Harlow Athletic Club at club level and Great Britain at international level. He is the fourth fastest Briton of all time. While attending St Mary's University College he made rapid progress to win his first national titles and international medals. Osagie has performed well indoors, winning bronze medals at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2012 and 2014, as well as ranking second on the British Indoor All-Time list. In the men's 800 metres final at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he finished eighth in a time of 1:43.77. Francine Niyonsaba
Francine Niyonsaba (born May 5, 1993) is a Burundian runner, who specialized in the 800 metres and shifted to longer distances in 2019. She was the 2016 Rio Olympics silver medalist in the women's 800 metres. Her silver medal was the first Olympic medal for Burundi since 1996. Niyonsaba won a silver in the event at the 2017 World Championships. She is a two-time 800m world indoor champion, having won 800m in 2016 and 2018. After her move to longer distances, Niyonsaba finished fifth over the 10,000 metres at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She holds the world record in the 2000 metres, and seven Burundian records. Hassan Mead ( Somali: Xassan Miicaad, ar, حسن ميد; born June 28, 1989) is a Somali-American long-distance runner. He was a cross country and track athlete for the University of Minnesota. An eight-time All-American in his Minnesota career, four in cross country (2007, 2008, 2009, 2011) and five in track (2008 outdoor, 2009 indoor and outdoor, 2012 indoor and outdoor). Hanna Green (born October 16, 1994) is an American track and field athlete, known for middle-distance races, primarily 800 meters. Biography Green went to high school at Greater Latrobe Senior High School in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. There she primarily ran 400 meters with a personal best of 55.93 from her junior year. She finished fifth then fourth at the PIAA state championships her last two years there 2012 and 2013. Next she ran for Virginia Tech, where she moved up in distance to the 800 meters and even broke 5 minutes for the mile her freshman year. In her sophomore year she moved her personal best to 2:01.17, which got her third place at the 2015 NCAA Championships. After missing the finals in 2016, she moved up to second place in 2017. Ben Blankenship (born December 15, 1988) is an American middle distance runner. He is a world record holder as a member of the 2015 USA Distance medley relay team, of which he ran the 1600-meter anchor leg. Nijel Carlos Amilfitano Amos (born 15 March 1994) is a Motswana middle-distance runner who competes in the 800 metres. He won silver at the 2012 Summer Olympics, which was Botswana's first ever Olympic medal. Early life Nijel Amos is from Marobela village in the North Eastern part of Botswana.
