Oregon Department Of Corrections
The Oregon Department of Corrections is the agency of the U.S. state of Oregon charged with managing a system of 12 state prisons since its creation by the state legislature in 1987. In addition to having custody of offenders sentenced to prison for more than 12 months, the agency provides program evaluation, oversight and funding for the community corrections activities of county governments. It is also responsible for interstate compact administration, jail inspections, and central information and data services regarding felons throughout the state. It has its headquarters in Salem. Critical Resistance
Critical Resistance is a U.S. based organization that works to build a mass movement to dismantle what it calls the prison-industrial complex (PIC). Critical Resistance's national office is in Oakland, California, with three additional chapters in New York City, Los Angeles, and Portland, Oregon. Critical Resistance has promoted the idea of abolishing the prison system from its first conference in 1998. It considers the prison-industrial complex to be a response to societal issues such as: homelessness, immigration, and gender non-conformity. The prison-industrial complex (PIC) is a term, coined after the " military-industrial complex" of the 1950s, used by scholars and activists to describe the relationship between a government and the various businesses that benefit from institutions of incarceration (such as prisons, jails, detention facilities, and psychiatric hospitals). The term is most often used in the context of the contemporary United States, where the rapid expansion of the US inmate population has resulted in political influence and economic profits for private prison companies and other businesses that supply goods and services to government prison agencies. Michael Francke
James Michael Francke (; October 2, 1946 – January 17, 1989) was a New Mexico judge and director of the state's Corrections Department, the governmental bureau which manages prisons, inmates and parolees. He was later appointed by then-Oregon governor Neil Goldschmidt to oversee a plan to double the state's inmate capacity as director of Oregon's Department of Corrections. On January 18, 1989, his body was discovered outside the department's office building in Salem; an autopsy determined he had been murdered the night before. A local petty criminal was eventually tried and convicted for the crime, and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Harry Tracy
Harry Tracy (23 October 1875 - 6 August 1902) was an outlaw in the American Old West. Biography His real name was Harry Severns, Tracy is said to have run with Butch Cassidy and the Hole in the Wall Gang, but there is no evidence to this claim. By the time he had reached adulthood, he was actively taking part in acts of robbery and theft. On March 1, 1898, Tracy and three accomplices engaged in a gunfight at Brown's Park, Colorado, in which Valentine S. Hoy, a member of the posse, was killed. Tracy and accomplice David Lant from the Brown's Park gunfight were captured but escaped the Routt County Jail in Hahns Peak Village. They were recaptured and in June 1898 were sent to the Aspen jail. After a couple months both Tracy and Lant escaped again. Lant disappears from history, but Tracy made his way to Washington and Oregon. In late 1901, Tracy was captured, convicted, and incarcerated at the Oregon State Penitentiary. Harry Minto
Harry Percy Minto (October 16, 1864 – September 27, 1915) was the superintendent of the Oregon State Penitentiary in the U.S. state of Oregon from 1914 until his death in 1915. Minto died in the line of duty, killed by an escaped inmate. Early life Harry Minto was born in Salem, Oregon, in 1864, the son of Oregon pioneer John Minto. In 1890, Minto was married to Jessie Glenn (1870 Salem, Oregon – 1956 Tampa, Florida). Minto was chief of police for the Salem, Oregon police department from 1891 to 1895 and he served two terms as the Marion County sheriff. He was elected sheriff in 1908, and served through 1913. His older brother, John Wilson Minto, was previously the sheriff as well as chief of police in Portland.
