Ordinary Girl (Alison Moyet Song)
"Ordinary Girl" is a song by English singer Alison Moyet, which was released in 1987 as the third single from her second studio album ''Raindancing''. It was written by Moyet, Jess Bailey and Rick Driscoll, and produced by Jimmy Iovine. Despite the Top 10 success of the first two singles from ''Raindancing'', "Ordinary Girl" failed to enter the UK Top 40, reaching No. 43. It remained within the Top 100 for four weeks. A music video was filmed to promote the single. Moyet performed the song on ITV's short lived music show '' The Roxy'', as well as the ''French & Saunders Show''. She also performed the song on "Pop Goes New Year 1987" aboard HMS ''Royal''. She performed two other songs on the ship, " Is This Love?" and "Blow Wind Blow", both from the same album. Geneviève Alison Jane Ballard ( ; born 18 June 1961) is an English singer noted for her powerful bluesy contralto voice. She came to prominence as half of the duo Yazoo (also known as Yaz), but has since mainly worked as a solo artist. Her worldwide album sales have reached a certified 23 million, with over two million singles sold. All nine of her studio albums and three compilation albums have charted in the top 30 of the UK Albums Chart, with two of them reaching number one. "Is This Love?" is a song by British singer-songwriter Alison Moyet, released in November 1986 as the first single from her second studio album ''Raindancing'' (1987). The song was written by Moyet and Dave Stewart, who used the pseudonym Jean Guiot for his involvement with the song. Background Following the release of her successful debut album, '' Alf'', Moyet decided to move to Los Angeles where she remained for almost a year. Once settled, Moyet's manager hired Jimmy Iovine to produce her second studio album. Although most of the songs had already been written back in England, "Is This Love?" was written in Los Angeles.
