Order Of The Dogwood
The Order of the Dogwood was the province of British Columbia's highest civilian honour for public service from 1966 to 1989, during which time 13 individuals were granted the honour of being appointed to the order. History The predecessor to the Order of the Dogwood, called the Dogwood Medallion, was created by the provincial Crown-in-Council in 1958 to commemorate the centennial of the establishment of the Colony of British Columbia. The Order of the Dogwood was created by order-in-council during a provincial Cabinet meeting held at Fort Langley on November 19, 1966, to mark the centennial of the union of the Colony of British Columbia with the Colony of Vancouver Island. Immediately following the meeting, Lieutenant Governor George Pearkes (a future appointee to the order) gave consent to the creation of the honour, which was then presented to the first recipients at the Douglas Day dinner that evening. Clarence Wallace
Clarence Wallace (June 22, 1893 – November 12, 1982) was a Canadians, Canadian shipbuilder and the List of lieutenant governors of British Columbia#Lieutenant Governors of British Columbia, 1871-present, 18th Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, he fought in World War I and was wounded at Ypres. After the war, he became the president of his father's business, Burrard Dry Dock. During World War II, he built ships for the war and was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1946. From 1950 to 1955, he was the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia. He was appointed a Knight of Grace of the Venerable Order of Saint John, Order of St. John of Jerusalem. He died at his winter residence in Palm Desert, California in 1982. Terrance Stanley Fox (July 28, 1958 June 28, 1981) was a Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist. In 1980, with one leg having been amputated due to cancer, he embarked on an east-to-west cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for cancer research. Although the spread of his cancer eventually forced him to end his quest after 143 days and , and ultimately cost him his life, his efforts resulted in a lasting, worldwide legacy.
