Orchard Boulevard MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Thomson–East Coast Line (TEL). Situated in Orchard, Singapore, the station is at the end of Orchard Boulevard with Grange Road. Surrounding developments include Camden Medical Centre, JEN by Shangri-La Hotel and various embassies. Orchard MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the North South (NSL) and Thomson–East Coast (TEL) lines, located on the boundaries of the Orchard and River Valley planning areas of Singapore. 1 Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. An alternative arrangement is to position side platforms on either side of the tracks. The historical use of island platforms depends greatly upon the location. Mount Pleasant MRT station is a non-operational underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Thomson-East Coast Line in Novena, Singapore. Located within the former grounds of Old Police Academy, the station is planned to serve future housing developments in the area. First announced in August 2012 as part of the Thomson line (TSL), the station was constructed as part of TEL Phase 3 (TEL3) with the merger of the TSL and the Eastern Region line (ERL). Initially slated to open along with the rest of the TEL3 stations, it was announced in November 2021 that the station would only open when its surrounding areas are further developed, even though it has been structurally completed.
