Oratorio Di San Rocco, Spezzano
The Oratorio di San Rocco (Oratory of St Roch) is a Roman Catholic chapel-church located in the frazione of Spezzano, in the commune of Fiorano Modenese, in the region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. History The oratory was moved near its original location, to the present site in 1909. At one time, the neighborhood had the name of ''borgata di San Rocco'' due to the oratory. The oratory was erected after the plague of 1501 ebbed in Spezzano. In 1605, the community ceded the adjacent house to the Servite order, for them to found a convent for some years. Saint Roch
Roch (lived c. 1348 – 15/16 August 1376/79 (traditionally c. 1295 – 16 August 1327, also called Rock in English, is a Catholic saint, a confessor whose death is commemorated on 16 August and 9 September in Italy; he is especially invoked against the plague. He has the designation of Rollox in Glasgow, Scotland, said to be a corruption of Roch's Loch, which referred to a small loch once near a chapel dedicated to Roch in 1506. He is a patron saint of dogs, invalids, falsely accused people, bachelors, and several other things. He is the patron saint of Dolo (near Venice) and Parma, as well as Casamassima, Cisterna di Latina and Palagiano (Italy). Fiorano Modenese ( Modenese: ) is a '' comune'' (municipality) in the province of Modena in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about west of Bologna and about southwest of Modena. Neighboring municipalities are Formigine, Sassuolo, Serramazzoni, Maranello. Ferrari's private testing track, the Fiorano Circuit is located on the border with Maranello. The Servite Order, officially known as the Order of Servants of Mary ( la, Ordo Servorum Beatae Mariae Virginis; abbreviation: OSM), is one of the five original Catholic mendicant orders. Scagliola (from the Italian ''scaglia'', meaning "chips") is a type of fine plaster used in architecture and sculpture. The same term identifies the technique for producing columns, sculptures, and other architectural elements that resemble inlays in marble. The scagliola technique came into fashion in 17th-century Tuscany as an effective substitute for costly marble inlays, the pietra dura works created for the Medici family in Florence. The use of scagliola declined in the 20th century. Scagliola is a composite substance made from selenite, glue and natural pigments, imitating marble and other hard stones. The material may be veined with colors and applied to a core, or desired pattern may be carved into a previously prepared scagliola matrix. The pattern's indentations are then filled with the colored, plaster-like scagliola composite, and then polished with flax oil for brightness, and wax for protection.
