Oratorio Dei Vanchetoni
The Oratorio dei Vanchetoni or Oratory of the Vanchetoni is a Roman Catholic prayer hall for the ''Arch-confraternity of San Francesco'', in Florence, region of Tuscany, Italy. History The society was founded by Ippolito Galantini (1565-1619), and had the purpose of educating poor children on the Christian doctrine. The members of the company were called ''vanchetoni'', for their habit of walking quietly, and ''bacchettoni'', in reference to the used baton for penitential self-scourging. The confraternity building was designed by Matteo and Giovanni Nigetti in 1602–1604, and built in land once the orchard of the Church of Ognissanti. Oratorio Vanchetoni
An oratorio () is a large musical composition for orchestra, choir, and soloists. Like most operas, an oratorio includes the use of a choir, soloists, an instrumental ensemble, various distinguishable characters, and arias. However, opera is musical theatre, while oratorio is strictly a concert piece – though oratorios are sometimes staged as operas, and operas are sometimes presented in concert form. In an oratorio, the choir often plays a central role, and there is generally little or no interaction between the characters, and no props or elaborate costumes. A particularly important difference is in the typical subject matter of the text. Opera tends to deal with history and mythology, including age-old devices of romance, deception, and murder, whereas the plot of an oratorio often deals with sacred topics, making it appropriate for performance in the church. Giovanni Martinelli (painter)
Giovanni Martinelli (Montevarchi, Arezzo 1600 - Florence 1659) was an Italian, Baroque era painter active mainly in Florence. Life Inexplicably ignored by biographers and art historians, Martinelli was long left in the shadows. As Luigi Lanzi suggested in his ''History of Painting in Italy'' in 1847, his works however deserve far more attention. Lorenzo Lippi
Lorenzo Lippi (3 May 1606 – 15 April 1665) was an Italian painter and poet. Biography Born in Florence, he studied painting under Matteo Rosselli. Both Baldassare Franceschini and Francesco Furini were also apprenticed with Rosselli, the influence of whose style, and more especially of that of Santi di Tito, is to be traced in Lippi's works, which are marked by taste, delicacy and a strong turn for portrait-like naturalism. His maxim was to poetize as he spoke, and to paint as he saw. His biography was recounted by Filippo Baldinucci. After painting for some time in Florence, and having married at the age of forty the daughter of the rich sculptor named Giovanni Francesco Susini, Lippi went as court painter to Innsbruck, where he has left many excellent portraits. Cecco Bravo
Cecco Bravo (15 November 1601 – 1661) was an Italian painter of the Florentine Baroque school. His true name is Francesco Montelatici. Biography He trained with Giovanni Biliverti and was also close to Sigismondo Coccapani. In the early 1620s he worked in the studio of Matteo Rosselli. By 1629, he had his own independent studio. His first recorded work is a fresco of the ''Virgin, St John & Angels'' (c. 1628/9; San Marco, Florence) and a painting of ''Charity'' ( Annunziata of Florence). In 1633, he painted six lunettes with scenes from the ''Life of the Blessed Bonaventura Bonaccorsi'' for the church of Santissima Annunziata in Pistoia, continuing a series begun in 1601 by Bernardino Poccetti. Church Of Ognissanti
The chiesa di San Salvatore di Ognissanti or more simply chiesa di Ognissanti (; "Church of All Saints"), is a Franciscan church located on the piazza of the same name in central Florence, region of Tuscany, Italy. Founded by the lay order of the Umiliati, the church was dedicated to all the saints and martyrs, known and unknown. It is the burial place of the famous Early Renaissance painter, Sandro Botticelli. History It was completed originally during the 1250s, but almost completely rebuilt around 1627 in Baroque-style by the architect Bartolomeo Pettirossi. Soon after, a new façade (1637) was erected using designs by Matteo Nigetti, that conserved the glazed terracotta lunette over the doorway, which while resembling the work of Della Robbia, is now attributed to Benedetto Buglioni. Matteo Nigetti
Matteo Nigetti (ca. 1560/1570 Р1648) was an Italian architect and sculptor. He is an important Baroque architect in Florence. Biography Born in Florence, he was the pupil and assistant of Bernardo Buontalenti, with whom he collaborated on the Palazzo Nonfinito (1593) (i.e. the ''unfinished palace'', which now houses the National Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology in Florence). Nigetti's masterwork is the Cappella dei Principi ("Princes' Chapel"), part of the church of San Lorenzo in Florence. It was commissioned by Grand Duke Ferdinand I, and Nigetti spent forty years of his life, from 1604 until his death, in its completion. He was assisted by Don Giovanni de' Medici, Ferdinand's half-brother, and Alessandro Pieroni.
