Orange is an unincorporated community located in western Cherokee County, Georgia, Cherokee County between the communities of Macedonia, Georgia, Macedonia and Lathemtown, Georgia, Lathemtown in the U.S. state of Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia. Orange was the second community in Cherokee County upon the county's inception in 1832. This community was at its height during the later portion of the 18th century due to its location on the main highway into Forsyth County, Georgia, Forsyth County. It had a post office, a general store, and Orange United Methodist, one of the first churches in Cherokee. Cherokee County is located in the US state of Georgia. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 266,620. The county seat is Canton. The county Board of Commissioners is the governing body, with members elected to office. Cherokee County is included in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area. History Original territory Originally, Cherokee County was more like a territory than a county, covering lands northwest of the Chattahoochee River and Chestatee River except for Carroll County. This county was created December 26, 1831, by the state legislature. It was named after the Cherokee people who lived in the area at that time. Several other counties were carved out of these Cherokee lands as part of the Cherokee Land Lottery of 1832. Macedonia, Georgia
Macedonia is an unincorporated community along Georgia Highway 20 in eastern Cherokee County, Georgia, United States approximately six miles east of the county seat, Canton. The center of Macedonia is approximately 45 miles north of Atlanta via I-75 / I-575 or 35 miles via Georgia 400. Straight-line distance indicates mileage of 31 miles from the center of downtown Atlanta. One theory as to how the community derived its name is from Macedonia Baptist Church, which was established in the late 1870s; from there an elementary school along Dock Lathem Trail (now closed) was also called Macedonia. Macedonia also had a second elementary school along Cokers Chapel Road prior to the present Macedonia Elementary School, built in 1956.
