Oppstrynsvatn
Oppstrynsvatn (also known as ''Oppstrynsvatnet'', ''Strynevatnet'', or ''Strynevatn'') is a lake in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. It is located about east of the village of Stryn (the administrative centre of the municipality). The villages of Flo, Oppstryn, and Erdal are located on the shores of the lake. The lake has an area of and is surrounded by many large mountains and glaciers which feed into the lake. The main outflow of the lake is the river Stryneelva which flows west into the Nordfjorden. Some of the local attractions include the Jostedalsbreen nasjonalparksenter, Jostedalsbreen National Park, the mountain Skåla, and the glacier Tindefjellbreen. The Norwegian National Road 15 highway runs along the southern shore of the lake. Stryn
Stryn is a municipality in the county of Vestland, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Nordfjord. The administrative center of the municipality is the village of Stryn. The municipality is located along the innermost part of the Nordfjorden. Some of the main villages in Stryn include Loen, Innvik, Utvik, Randabygda, Olden, and Flo. Farming, forestry, fruit growing, animal breeding for furs, small manufacturing industries, tourism, and the service trades provide the main occupations. The wide river Stryneelva enters the village of Stryn from the east after meandering through the fertile Stryn Valley, from the large lake Oppstrynsvatn. Oppstryn Church
Oppstryn Church ( no, Oppstryn kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Stryn Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Oppstryn, on the shore of the lake Oppstrynsvatnet. It is the church for the Oppstryn parish which is part of the Nordfjord prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1863 using plans drawn up by the architect Hans Linstow. The church seats about 300 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to 1308, but the church was not new that year. The first church was a wooden stave church that was likely built during the 13th century. The first church was located at Nesje, about northwest of the present location of the church. Jostedalsbreen Nasjonalparksenter
Jostedalsbreen nasjonalparksenter is a visitors center in the village of Oppstryn in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. The center is east of the villages of Loen and Olden, on the shore of the lake Oppstrynsvatn. The mountain Skåla and the glaciers Briksdalsbreen and Jostedalsbreen are to the southwest of this visitor's center. Jostedalsbreen nasjonalparksenter is one of the three visitor's centers in Jostedalsbreen National Park. The center is owned by a private foundation. Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland officiated at the formal opening of the center on 19 June 1993, although it was opened to the public in 1992. The main building at the centre was constructed in a manner similar to Viking long houses where pillars rather than the walls are supporting the roof. Flo, Norway
Flo is a small village in the municipality of Stryn in Vestland county, Norway. It is located on the northern shore of the lake Oppstrynsvatn, about east of the municipal center of Stryn. Directly south across the lake is the Jostedalsbreen nasjonalparksenter, a visitor's center for the nearby Jostedalsbreen National Park. Flo has become famous as the ancestral home of national and international footballers, all of whom are related: The brothers Kjell Rune Flo, Jostein Flo, Tore André Flo and Jarle Flo, all of whom grew up in nearby Stryn, as well as their cousin Håvard Flo who grew up in Flo. Nordfjorden (Sogn Og Fjordane)
Nordfjorden is the sixth longest fjord in Norway. It flows through the municipalities of Stryn, Gloppen, Stad, Bremanger, and Kinn, and it is the central feature of the entire Nordfjord region which makes up the northern third of the county. The long fjord stretches from Husevågøy island in Kinn Municipality to the village of Loen in Stryn Municipality. The fjord starts as runoff from the Jostedalsbreen, Europe's largest mainland glacier, in the east and it flows west, emptying into the ocean just south of the Stadlandet peninsula. The mouth of the fjord lies between the large islands of Vågsøy and Bremangerlandet (with the smaller island of Husevågøy lying in the middle of the mouth).
