Opium War (2008 Film)
''Opium War'' ( fa, جنگ تریاک) is a 2008 Afghan black comedy film directed by Golden Globe winner, Siddiq Barmak. The film was shot entirely in Afghanistan and revolves around the experiences of two American soldiers ( Peter Bussian and Joe Suba), who crash their helicopter in the Afghan desert and find themselves at the mercy of the natural elements and an eclectic family of Afghan opium farmers. Siddiq Barmak
Siddiq Barmak ( fa, صدیق برمک, born September 7, 1962) is an Afghan film director and producer. In 2004, Barmak won Best Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globes for his first feature film, '' Osama''. He received an M.A. degree in cinema direction from the Moscow Film Institute (VGIK) in 1987. Osama There is a stylistic echo in ''Osama'' featured in Afghan films by the Iranian Makhmalbaf dynasty. Barmak directed ''Osama'' with significant funding and assistance from Mohsen Makhmalbaf. The Iranian director invested in the film, lending Barmak his Arriflex camera and encouraging him to send the movie to international festivals, which eventually generated further funding from Japanese and Irish producers. This is a list of submissions to the 81st Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is handed out annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. Peter Bussian
Peter Bussian is an American independent filmmaker, photographer and visual media consultant who is known mainly for his work with refugees and other international development issues. He has received awards for his photographs from the International Photography Awards (Lucies) and Interaction. Bussian has held several photographic exhibitions, including "The Afghans: Pictures of Resilience 2001 – 2011", which was exhibited at Gallery 169 and Sharq Gallery, both in Los Angeles. The exhibit was also on display at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York throughout 2012. He is the author and photographer of the book "Passage to Afghanistan" (Skyhorse, 2016).
