Operation Rio Grande
Operation Rio Grande is a massive multi-agency collaboration to promote public safety in the Rio Grande neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah. It consists of three phases. Phase one was rolled out on August 14, 2017. Phase one was targeted enforcement of laws. Phase two is rehabilitation of offenders who were arrested in phase one. Phase three will be to find jobs for all rehabilitated offenders. Its biggest impact is on Salt Lake's homeless population, as the neighborhood has a very high density of homeless people and homeless services. Jackie Biskupski
Jackie Biskupski (born January 11, 1966) is an American Democratic politician, who served as the 35th Mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah. Upon taking office, Biskupski became Salt Lake City's 35th mayor, the city's first openly gay mayor, and the second female mayor (after Deedee Corradini). Originally, the Salt Lake Valley was inhabited by the Shoshone, Paiute, Goshute and Ute Native American tribes. At the time of the founding of Salt Lake City the valley was within the territory of the Northwestern Shoshone, who had their seasonal camps along streams within the valley and in adjacent valleys.
