Operation Quds-1
Operation Quds-1 ( fa, عملیات قدس-۱) is the name of a military operation which was started on June 14, 1985 during the Iran–Iraq War. The operation was launched by the forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the code name of "Ya Mohammad Rasoolullah" (Persian: یامحمد رسولالله) in the "Hur al-Hawizeh (Hawizeh Marshes)" operational zone which is located at the east of the Tigris River in Iraq. The goal of Quds-1 operation was to annihilate the Ba'athist forces in Iraq and in order to disrupt the cohesion of Saddam's army in the region; The size of the area was approximately one hundred and eighty square kilometers. At the mentioned operation, which lasted for about 4 days, the forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps captured two checkpoints, namely "Abu-Dharr" and "Abu-Laila"; and as a result, the Iraqi Ba'athist resistance was finished. Iran–Iraq War
The Iran–Iraq War was an armed conflict between Iran and Iraq that lasted from September 1980 to August 1988. It began with the Iraqi invasion of Iran and lasted for almost eight years, until the acceptance of United Nations Security Council Resolution 598 by both sides. Operation Badr (1985)
Operation Badr was an Iranian Military operation, operation conducted during the Iran–Iraq War against the forces of Ba'athist Iraq. The Iranians launched their offensive on March 11 and succeeded in capturing a part of the Basra-Amarah-Baghdad highway. The following Iraqi counterattack, however, forced the Iranians out in a continual war of endless stalemate. Prelude After its failure to capture Basra in 1982, Iran launched Operation Kheibar in 1984 to capture the Highway 6 (Iraq), Baghdad-Basra highway. This resulted in the Battle of the Marshes, and the operation failed, but Iran planned for Operation Badr in a further attempt to capture it. Operation Quds-2 ( fa, عملیات قدس-۲) is one of the operations of the Iran–Iraq War, which was launched on July 25, 1985, in the "Hor al-Hawizeh" (Hawizeh Marshes) operational zone by the forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (of Islamic Republic of Iran). The military code of the operation Quds-2 was "Ya Muhammad Rasulullah (PBUH)" and its goal was in order to neutralize the counterattack of the Ba'athist forces of the Iraqi army around the area of "Al-Bayda". At the operation Quds-2 which was considered as an amphibious military operation, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps killed 312 Iraqi forces, and at the end of the operation liberated 15 square kilometers of the northern zone of Hur al-Hawizeh as well as destroying 30 boats and 15 water police-posts of Ba'athist forces of Saddam. Hawizeh Marshes
The Hawizeh Marshes are a complex of marshes that straddle the Iran–Iraq border. The marshes are fed by two branches of the Tigris River (the Al-Musharrah and Al-Kahla) in Iraq and the Karkheh River in Iran. The Hawizeh marsh is critical to the survival of the Central and Hammar marshes also make up the Mesopotamian Marshes, because they are a refuge for species that may recolonize or reproduce in other marshlands. Hawizeh Marshes are drained by the Al-Kassarah. This river plays a critical role in maintaining the marshes as a flow-through system and preventing it from becoming a closed saline basin.
