Opera Vista was a nonprofit chamber opera company in Houston, Texas, founded in 2006 by conductor and artistic director Viswa Subbaraman, sopranElizabeth Knudsonand her husband musiciaChris Knudson The company aimed to promote and perform new and contemporary works, and to attract new and younger audiences who may be unaccustomed to opera. Subbaraman stated that the idea for the company grew out of a desire to see people his own age attending opera: "It started with a bunch of friends at a bar, talking about the fact that our peers didn't go to opera or classical music. We started to talk about ways to make that happen - and out of that came Opera Vista." Viswa Subbaraman
Viswa Subbaraman (born December 1, 1976) is an American Conducting, conductor. Subbaraman was co-founder and artistic director of Opera Vista, and served as artistic director of Skylight Music Theatre. He served as music director and conductor for two productions at the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Houston. Early life and education Subbaraman was born in Big Spring, Texas, on December 1, 1976, to Shantha Subbaraman, a homemaker and Dr Subbaraman, a general surgeon in Midland, TX. After graduating from Big Spring High School, he attended Duke University, where he earned degrees in music and biology. Subbaraman intended to follow a pre-med path until a trip to Vienna while a college freshman inspired him to pursue music. He then worked as assistant to William Henry Curry, resident conductor of the North Carolina Symphony. Somtow Sucharitkul
S. P. Somtow (a rearrangement of his real name Somtow Papinian Sucharitkul; th, สมเถา สุจริตกุล; ; born 30 December 1952) is a Thai-American musical composer. He is also a science fiction, fantasy, and horror author writing in English. Somtow has both Thai and American citizenship. He served as a musical consultant on the acclaimed Todd Field film Tár. Youth A descendant of the Royal Chakri dynasty (his grandfather's sister was a cousin and consort of King Vajiravudh), Somtow was born in Bangkok. He moved to England with his parents in 1953 at the age of six months. English was his first language. Somtow was educated at Eton College and at St Catharine's College, Cambridge. He returned to Thailand in the early-1960s for a five-year period, during which he became fluent in the Thai language.
