''Opening Day of Close-Up'' ( it, Il giorno della prima di Close Up) is a 1996 Italian short film directed by Nanni Moretti. It was screened out of competition at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival. Plot Moretti plays himself, running the movie theater he owns in Rome. In the film, Moretti is endlessly anxious with the wish for his patrons to watch and appreciate Abbas Kiarostami's '' Close-Up'' (1990), in the face of reports that other films are selling far more tickets. Giovanni "Nanni" Moretti (; born 19 August 1953) is an Italian film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. His films have won accolades including a Palme d'Or at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival for ''The Son's Room'', a Silver Bear at the 1986 Berlin Film Festival for ''The Mass is Ended'' and a Silver Lion at the 1981 Venice Film Festival for '' Sweet Dreams'', in addition to the David di Donatello Award for Best Film on three occasions (for ''Caro diario'' in 1994, ''The Son's Room'' in 2001 and '' Il caimano'' in 2006). Abbas Kiarostami ( fa, عباس کیارستمی ; 22 June 1940 – 4 July 2016) was an Iranian film director, screenwriter, poet, photographer, and film producer. An active filmmaker from 1970, Kiarostami had been involved in the production of over forty films, including short film, shorts and documentaries. ''Close-Up'' ( fa, کلوزآپ ، نمای نزدیک, ''Klūzāp, nemā-ye nazdīk'') is a 1990 Iranian docufiction written, directed and edited by Abbas Kiarostami. The film tells the story of the real-life trial of a man who impersonated film-maker Mohsen Makhmalbaf, conning a family into believing they would star in his new film. ''Amleto'' is an opera in four acts by Franco Faccio set to a libretto by Arrigo Boito, based on Shakespeare's play ''Hamlet''.
