Open Your Eyes (Warzone Album)
''Open Your Eyes'' is the second full-length album from New York hardcore band Warzone. It was released in 1988 on Caroline Records, a year after their first album, ''Don't Forget The Struggle, Don't Forget The Streets''. It was co-produced by guitarist Dr. Know, of the Washington, D.C. hardcore band, Bad Brains. One of the tracks, "Always – A Friend For Life", was a re-recording of a song from their debut EP, ''Lower East Side Crew'' (1987), as was "We're The Crew" from their previous album. In 1994, Another Planet re-issued the album on the same disc as ''Don't Forget The Struggle...''. Lyrically, the band strived to distance themselves from the racist skinhead label, which had haunted them from inception. Other lyrics discussed oppression, togetherness, and the sense of belonging to a bigger, extended family. Warzone (band)
Warzone (formerly known as Rat Poison) was an American hardcore punk band formed on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in 1983. The band helped develop the New York hardcore sound, the hardcore skinhead style and the youth crew subgenre. During the band's 14 years and many line-up changes, their primarily hardcore sound was flavored by influences ranging from Oi! (they toured several times with The Business and played a cover of their song "The Real Enemy") to traditional punk rock to heavy metal (on their self-titled LP). Their fan base was diverse, with their concerts usually attended by skinheads, straight edge teens, metalheads, and punks of all ages. Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. New York Hardcore
New York hardcore (also known as NYHC) is both the hardcore punk music created in New York City and the subculture and lifestyle (sociology), lifestyle associated with that music. New York hardcore grew out of the hardcore scene established in Washington, D.C., by bands such as Bad Brains and Minor Threat. Initially a local phenomenon of the 1980s and 1990s, New York hardcore eventually grew to establish an international reputation with little to moderate mainstream popularity but with a dedicated and enthusiastic underground music, underground following, primarily in Europe and the United States. Bad Brains
Bad Brains are an American rock band formed in Washington, D.C. in 1976. Originally a jazz fusion band under the name Mind Power, they are widely regarded as pioneers of hardcore punk, though the band's members have objected to the use of this term to describe their music. They are also an adept reggae band, while later recordings featured elements of other genres like funk, heavy metal, hip hop, and soul.
