Free and open-source software (FOSS) is a term used to refer to groups of software consisting of both free software and open-source software where anyone is freely licensed to use, copy, study, and change the software in any way, and the source code is openly shared so that people are encouraged to voluntarily improve the design of the software. AUUG was an Australian association and users' group. It described itself as the organisation for Unix, Linux and Open-source software, Open Source professionals. Its aim was to build a community of those interested in open system (computing), open systems and open standards. The newsletter AUUGN is pronounced . It was founded in 1997 and formally incorporated in New South Wales as a non-profit organisation in 1999.
