Open Sesame (TV Series)
''Open Sesame'' is a children's television series composed solely of the skits and segments of the long-running American television series ''Sesame Street''. While some countries air the American program in whole, and some create their own versions of the show, many more air this title of loosely associated skits, as ''Open Sesame''. The name is a pun based on the magic words "Open sesame" which are used in the legend of Ali Baba. The first ''Open Sesame'' packages debuted in 1975 and 1976, in Spain, Sweden, France, and Montreal, Canada. By 1979, Portugal and Italy had followed suit. Some of these countries, based on the success of the dubbed series, later expanded into co-productions, with varying levels of success. Open Sesame
"Open sesame" (french: Sésame, ouvre-toi; ar, افتح يا سمسم) is a magical phrase in the story of "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves" in Antoine Galland's version of '' One Thousand and One Nights''. It opens the mouth of a cave in which forty thieves have hidden a treasure. Documentation The phrase first appears in Antoine Galland's French translation of '' One Thousand and One Nights'' (1704–1717) as ''Sésame, ouvre-toi'' (English, "Sesame, open yourself"). In the story, Ali Baba overhears one of the 40 thieves saying "open sesame". His brother later cannot remember the phrase, and confuses it with the names of grains other than sesame, becoming trapped in the magic cave. Galland's phrase has been variously translated from the French into English as "Sesame, open", "Open, sesame" and "Open, O sesame". Ali Baba
"Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves" ( ar, علي بابا والأربعون لصا) is a folk tale from the '' One Thousand and One Nights''. It was added to the collection in the 18th century by its French translator Antoine Galland, who heard it from Syrian storyteller Hanna Diyab. As one of the most popular ''Arabian Nights'' tales, it has been widely retold and performed in many media across the world, especially for children (for whom the more violent aspects of the story are often suppressed). In the original version, Ali Baba ( ar, علي بابا ') is a poor woodcutter and an honest person who discovers the secret of a thieves' den, and enters with the magic phrase " open sesame". Loris Gizzi (16 August 1899 – 6 October 1986) was an Italian actor and voice actor. Life and career Born in Rome, after his university studies Gizzi attended a school of dance and singing. Franco Latini (September 12, 1927 – February 2, 1991) was an Italian actor and voice actor. He was considered to be one of the top voice dubbers for many animated films and cartoons for audiences across Italy.
