Oonoonba is a suburb of Townsville in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the , Oonoonba had a population of 1,675 people. Geography Oonoonba is approximately by road south from Townsville central business district. The suburb is bounded to the north by the Ross River, to the east loosely by Gordon Creek, to the south by the North Coast railway line and to the west loosely by Northshore Circuit. The suburb is predominantly a residential area. Oonoonba was once considered isolated from Townsville, but subdivision development at neighbouring Idalia has filled the void between and has made Oonoonba become part of the contiguous urban area of Townsville. The areas in the north and east of the suburb along the river are not used as they are marshland. Idalia is a southern suburb in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the Idalia had a population of 4,438 people. Geography Idalia is bounded by the North Coast railway line to the east, the median strip of Racecourse Road to the south, the median strip of Stuart Drive to the south-west, and by the Ross River to the north-west. There are three saltwater lakes in Idalia, created as part of the Fairfield Waters subdivision to manage excess water during the wet season. Cluden is an outer southern suburb of Townsville in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the Cluden had a population of 427 people. History The suburb takes its name from a property name used by James Gordon (1822-1904), Sub-Collector of Customs in Townsville from 1865. The name is probably referring to Cluden Water, a stream in Scotland near his birthplace in Dumfries. The presence of the Cluden railway station () on the North Coast railway line prompted the relocation of the racecourse from central Townsville to a new site near the railway station called Cluden Racecourse to enable people from a wider area to attend the races through the convenience of travelling by rail. Railway Estate is a suburb of Townsville in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the Railway Estate had a population of 2,852 people. Geography Railway Estate is located on the south end of Ross Island, bounded by Ross Creek to the south-west and Ross River to the south-east. Rosslea is a suburb of Townsville in the City of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. In the Rosslea had a population of 1,732 people. The Bruce Highway is a major highway in Queensland, Australia. Commencing in the state capital, Brisbane, it passes through areas close to the eastern coast on its way to Cairns in Far North Queensland. The Ross River is a river located in northern Queensland, Australia. The long river flows through the city of Townsville and empties into the Coral Sea. It is the major waterway flowing through Townsville and the city's main source of drinking water.
