''Onyx'' is the third studio album by American rock band Pop Evil. It was released on May 14, 2013. The first single, " Trenches", was released February 28, 2013. The album was available for streaming a day before its official release date. It was produced by Johnny K John Karkazis, better known as Johnny K, is an American record producer, engineer, mixer, musician, and songwriter. He owns Groovemaster Recording Studios in Chicago. In addition to the studios, his music complex includes a gymnasium, rehears ..., mixed by Jay Ruston, and mastered by Paul Logus. Additional vocal production was performed by Dave Bassett. Additional programming was done by Bassett and Matt Doughtery. The album debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 39, No. 9 on the Independent Albums chart, with 10,000 copies sold in its first week. Pop Evil
Pop Evil is an American rock band that was formed in North Muskegon, Michigan, in 2001 by Leigh Kakaty. The band's roots reside in TenFive, a group formed in the late-1990s by Kakaty and guitarist Jason Reed. Pop Evil won the Radio Contraband Rock Radio Award for "Song of the Year" for "Trenches" in 2013. History Early years (2001–2007) The band was formed from pieces of other Michigan bands in 2001, including a group known as TenFive, which consisted of Kakaty, guitarists Tom Grasman and Jason Reed, bassist James Schaap, and drummer Dylan Allison. As TenFive, Kakaty and Reed recorded a debut album, Severn, and another EP, Dam Electro, on their own independent label. Shortly thereafter, TenFive broke up and Kakaty founded Pop Evil with Allison. Kakaty and the members of Pop Evil endured years of playing the clubs without much to show for it. "Deal with the Devil " is the second single from '' Onyx'' and is the eleventh single overall from American rock band Pop Evil. The video, which was directed by Johan Carlén, is the second part of a trilogy that is being presented in reverse. The song became the band's second number-one single, following their previous single "Trenches". Premise The song and video are the second part of a trilogy that deals with substance abuse and dependency. With respect to the song, drummer Chachi Riot stated that: ''"Life can be wonderful, but life can also be extremely merciless. How do we deal with these hard times? Who do we have to deal with?
