Hawkwind
Hawkwind are an English rock band known as one of the earliest space rock groups. Since their formation in November 1969, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and have incorporated many different styles into their music, including hard rock, progressive rock and psychedelic rock. They are also regarded as an influential proto-punk band. Their lyrics favour urban and science fiction themes. Many musicians, dancers and writers have worked with the band since their inception. Notable musicians who have performed in Hawkwind include Lemmy, Ginger Baker, Robert Calvert, Nik Turner and Huw Lloyd-Langton. However, the band are most closely associated with their founder, singer, songwriter and guitarist Dave Brock, who is the only remaining original member. Space Rock
Space rock is a music genre characterized by loose and lengthy song structures centered on instrumental textures that typically produce a hypnotic, otherworldly sound. It may feature distorted and reverberation-laden guitars, minimal drumming, languid vocals, synthesizers and lyrical themes of outer space and science fiction. The genre emerged in late 1960s psychedelia and progressive rock bands such as Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, and Gong who explored a "cosmic" sound. Similar sounds were pursued in the early 1970s West German ''kosmische Musik'' ("cosmic music") scene. ''Blood of the Earth'' is the twenty sixth studio album by the British space rock group Hawkwind, released on 21 June 2010. Although it is a new studio album, there are some new versions of older songs. "You’d Better Believe It" was originally released on their 1974 album ''Hall of the Mountain Grill'', and "Sweet Obsession" was originally released on Dave Brock's 1984 solo album ''Earthed to the Ground''. There is a limited 2CD edition, containing live tracks and an interview. "Tide of the Century" was originally recorded by Tim Blake on his 2000 solo album ''The Tide of the Century''. The cover version of "Long Gone" was recorded for Mojo's Syd Barrett special edition of ''The Madcap Laughs''. The Machine Stops (album)
''The Machine Stops'' is a concept album by space rock band Hawkwind, released on 15 April 2016. It is inspired by the E.M. Forster short story of the same name. It is Hawkwind's twenty-ninth studio album, Hawkwind's first album recorded without the involvement of Tim Blake since 2010's ''Blood of the Earth'' and the first to feature bassist Haz Wheaton. Following ''Spacehawks'', which was a compilation album largely consisting of re-recorded songs, and ''Stellar Variations'' which had been released under the Hawkwind Light Orchestra moniker, ''The Machine Stops'' is Hawkwind's first studio album composed entirely of new material released under the Cherry Red label. Production and release Mr Dibs had first mentioned the production of a new album at a 2014 concert in Manchester. Robert Calvert
Robert Newton Calvert (9 March 1945 – 14 August 1988) was a South African-British writer, poet, and musician. He is principally known for his role as lyricist, performance poet and lead vocalist of the space rock band Hawkwind. Early life Calvert was born in Pretoria, South Africa, and moved with his parents to England when he was two. He attended school in London and Margate, living in a flat in Arlington House. Having finished school he joined the Air Training Corps, in which he became a corporal and played trumpet for the 438 Squadron band. He then went on to college in Canterbury. After leaving college, and having been denied his childhood dream of becoming a fighter pilot, he slowly acquainted himself with the UK's bohemian scene. Alan Davey (musician)
Alan Davey (born 11 September 1963 in Ipswich, Suffolk, England) is an English musician, best known as the former bassist with Hawkwind. He is the original bass player in Gunslinger which started in 1979 and is still the bass player and vocalist for Gunslinger. He was writing a new album for 2018 release on Cleopatra Records, as well as two solo albums for 2018 and 2019 release, and is also writing music for movies and TV shows. He has also played and recorded with Meads of Asphodel, Dumpy's Rusty Nuts, Spirits Burning, Bedouin (1998-2003). He formed with the newly re-imagined Hawklords in 2008 with Nik Turner until 2012 and since then formed The Psychedelic Warlords in 2013 until 2015. David Anthony Brock (born 20 August 1941) is an English musician. He plays electric guitar, keyboards, bass and oscillators. He is a founder, sole constant member and musical focus of the space rock group Hawkwind.Allmusic– Dave Brock biography Brock was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the annual Progressive Music Awards in 2013. Tim Blake
Timothy Blake (born 6 February 1952, in Shepherd's Bush, London) is a keyboardist, synthesist, vocalist, and composer working with Gong, Hawkwind and his Synthesizer and Light performances as Crystal Machine, with the French Light Artist Patrice Warrener. Blake met Daevid Allen at Marquee Studios, where the latter was recording his first solo album '' Banana Moon'' in 1971. At the end of the sessions, Allen had invited Blake to be Gong's sound mixer, but Blake preferred to work on his own music. He eventually joined Gong full-time in September 1972 as the band's synthesizer player, being among the first to bring the synthesizer out of the studio and on to the stage. Niall Hone
Niall Hone (born 24 June 1970) is an English musician, best known as a member of the UK space rock band Hawkwind from 2008 to 2017, and May 2018–2021. Hone has also been heavily involved in electronic dance music since the early 1990s. Music career Early in his career, Hone played bass guitar in several notable groups, including Mandragora, Captain Sensible's band. He also played lead guitar in Tribe of Cro. In 2008 Hone joined Hawkwind following the death of keyboardist Jason Stuart, first performing with the band on their December 2008 UK tour. On this tour, he primarily played guitar, whilst additionally playing synthesizers and bass. Since May 2011, he has been the band's primary bassist and live electronic manipulator (using Ableton Live) with former bassist Mr Dibs now assuming the role of lead vocalist, occasionally playing cello and second bass. Richard Hugh "Huw" Lloyd-Langton (6 February 1951 – 6 December 2012) was an English musician, best known as the guitarist for the rock band HawkwindStrong, Martin C. (2003) ''The Great Rock Discography'', Canongate, , p. 466 at various times. He also had his own band, The Lloyd Langton Group, and was the session lead guitarist for UK band The Meads of Asphodel. Biography Lloyd-Langton was born in Harlesden, north west London. As a member of Hawkwind he appeared on their first album, ''Hawkwind'', before leaving the band. He played guitar for Widowmaker, Budgie, and Leo Sayer during the 1970s, then rejoined Hawkwind in 1979, appearing on the ''Live Seventy Nine'' album release from that year and the subsequent ''Levitation'' album.
