Ontario Ombudsman
The Office of the Ombudsman of Ontario is an independent office of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario. Role The office's jurisdiction includes more than 500 provincial government ministries, agencies, corporations, tribunals, boards and commissions. In addition to the oversight of governmental bodies, the office is also responsible for the intake of public complaints which indicate the possibility of maladministration within the Government of Ontario and in the appropriate cases conducts an investigation. The office is generally an office of last resort and cannot legally conduct investigations into the lives of private citizens or the private sector. The office's official director holds the title of "ombudsman" and is appointed to a five-year renewable term by a provincially legislated all-party committee. Paul-Léon Dubé (27 April 1892 – 6 June 1969) was an Independent Liberal member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in St-Denis, Quebec and became a locomotive engineer by career and at one time a vice-president of the Canadian Association of Railway Employees. He was first elected to Parliament at the Restigouche—Madawaska riding in a by-election on 24 October 1949 after two previous unsuccessful campaigns there as a Conservative candidate in an October 1933 by-election and as an Independent Liberal in the 1945 federal election. André Marin is a lawyer who served as Ontario ombudsman from 2005 to 2015. Personal Marin is a graduate of Carleton University (BA 1985) and University of Ottawa (LLL 1988, JD 1989). Career After graduating from law school, Marin became an assistant Crown Attorney in Ottawa, Ontario in 1991 and taught law part-time in Ottawa. From September 1996 until June 1998, he served as the Director of Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU). Roberta L. Jamieson, OC is a Canadian lawyer and First Nations activist. She was the first Indigenous woman ever to earn a law degree in Canada, the first non-Parliamentarian to be appointed an ''ex officio'' member of a House of Commons committee, and the first woman appointed as Ontario Ombudsman. Bell Trinity Square is an office complex occupying part of the former site of the historic Eaton's Annex in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The name is a combination of: the name of original and now former occupant Bell Canada; the location of the site south of the Church of the Holy Trinity; and Trinity Square.
