Oneida People
The Oneida people (autonym: Onʌyoteˀa·ká·, Onyota'a:ka, ''the People of the Upright Stone, or standing stone'', ''Thwahrù·nęʼ'' in Tuscarora) are a Native American tribe and First Nations band. They are one of the five founding nations of the Iroquois Confederacy in the area of upstate New York, particularly near the Great Lakes. Originally the Oneida lived in what is now central New York, particularly around Oneida Lake and Oneida County. Oneida Carry
The Oneida Carry was an important link in the main 18th century trade route between the Atlantic seaboard of North America and interior of the continent. From Schenectady, near Albany, New York on the Hudson River, cargo would be carried upstream along the Mohawk River using boats known as ''bateaux''. At the location at modern-day Rome, New York, the cargo and boats would be portaged one to four miles overland to Wood Creek. This portage, which the Haudenosaunee called ''De-o-Wain-Sta'', was known as the ''Oneida Carry'' or ''The Great Carrying Place'' in English, and as ''Trow Plat'' in Dutch. After relaunching into Wood Creek (called Kah-ne-go-dick by the Haudenosaunee), the ''bateaux'' would navigate downstream to Oneida Lake, the Oswego River, and ultimately Lake Ontario at Oswego. Oneida FC
Oneida FC (Oneida Football Club) is a soccer club based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The organisation was estabished in 2011 and plays its home games at East Boston Memorial Stadium, owned by the city of Boston. The field also hosts American football and baseball games. In the past, Oneida had a rugby league team which was dissolved in 2013. It played in the USA Rugby League (USARL) from 2011 to 2012 before pausing their operations. The team played their home games at Henry G. Steinbrenner '27 Stadium on the campus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2020 a separate organization, "Oneida County Football Club", was started in Utica, Oneida County, NY. They feature youth soccer teams. Oneida County Airport was a public airport in Whitestown in Oneida County, New York, northwest of downtown Utica. The airport covered and had two runways. Oneida County closed the airport in January 2007 and transferred operations to Griffiss International Airport, (formerly Griffiss Air Force Base) about to the north in Rome, New York. Federal Aviation Administration records say the airport boarded 2,122 passengers in calendar year 2004 and 1,951 in 2005. The FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2007–2011 classified it as a ''general aviation'' airport. Oneida River
The Oneida River is a river that forms a portion of the boundary between Oswego and Onondaga counties in central New York. The river flows from Oneida Lake's outlet to its confluence with the Seneca River, where the two rivers combine to form the Oswego River that empties into Lake Ontario. The river was known to the Onondaga people as ''Sah-eh'', and was referred to during the colonial era as the Onondaga River. Oneida Lake is the largest lake entirely within New York state, with a surface area of . The lake is located northeast of Syracuse and near the Great Lakes. It feeds the Oneida River, a tributary of the Oswego River, which flows into Lake Ontario. Oneida Creek is a small river in New York in the United States. The creek enters the southeastern corner of Oneida Lake at a location known as South Bay, a bay of the lake.
