One Summer Of Happiness
''One Summer of Happiness'' ( sv, Hon dansade en sommar - She danced for a summer) is a 1951 Swedish film by director Arne Mattsson, based on the 1949 novel ''Sommardansen'' (''The Summer Dance'') by Per Olof Ekström. It was the first Swedish film to win the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. It was also nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 1952 Cannes Film Festival. Today, the film is mainly known for its nude scenes, which caused much controversy at the time and, together with Ingmar Bergman's ''Summer with Monika'' (1953), spread the image of Swedish "free love" around the world. Plot The film tells the story about the university student Göran who spends a summer on his uncle's farm, where he meets the young Kerstin. Arne Mattsson
Arne Mattsson (2 December 1919 – 28 June 1995) was a Swedish film director. Biography Born in Uppsala, the early films of Mattsson were mostly comedies. His biggest success was '' Hon dansade en sommar'' (1951, aka. ''One Summer of Happiness''), which earned him the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival and a nomination for the Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1952. It caused some controversy at the time because it contained nudity. His 1953 film of Peder Sjögren's second novel, ''Bread of Love'' (''Kärlekens bröd''), based on Sjögren's experiences as a volunteer in the Finnish Continuation War of 1941–44 angered the author, was banned in Finland and incurred the wrath of the Soviets at the Cannes Film Festival. Nudity In Film
In film, nudity may be either graphic or suggestive, such as when a person appears to be naked but is covered by a sheet. The 5th Cannes Film Festival was held from 23 April to 10 May 1952. As in the previous three festivals, the entire jury of this festival was made up of French persons, with Maurice Genevoix as the Jury President. 2nd Berlin International Film Festival
The 2nd annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 12 to 25 June 1952. The FIAPF prohibited the festival from awarding any official prizes by a jury (which only Cannes and Venice were qualified to do so), instead awards were given by audience voting. This was changed in 1956 when the FIAPF granted Berlin "A-Status" during that year. Golden Bear was awarded to Swedish film '' Hon dansade en sommar'' by audience vote. Orson Welles's ''Othello'' was banned from the festival due to his alleged anti-German remarks. The festival held a retrospective on silent films. Nude swimming is the practice of swimming without clothing, whether in natural bodies of water or in swimming pools. A colloquial term for nude swimming is ''skinny-dipping''. Gunvor Margareta Pontén (11 February 1929 – 16 February 2023) was a Swedish actress who graduated from Dramatens elevskola in 1954. She appeared in over 50 films and television shows starting in 1949. She starred in the film ''Leva på 'Hoppet''', which won the Silver Bear (Comedies) award at the 1st Berlin International Film Festival. Gunvor Pontén was the daughter of Ruben Pontén and Dagny Carlqvist. She was also a cousin of fashion designer Gunilla Pontén and actor Tomas Pontén. After graduating in 1948 she started acting school at Terserus teaterskola 1948–1950, and Dramatens elevskola 1951–1954. She worked within the field of acting at Stadsteatern, Folkteatern in Gothenburg and Oscarsteatern. Pontén died on 16 February 2023, at the age of 94.
