''One One One'' is the sixth studio album by the Norwegian band Shining, released through Universal on April 8, 2013, and Indie Recordings on June 7, 2013. Overview The Norwegian band Shining started out as an acoustic jazz quartet, but the sound of this new album, like its predecessor, '' Blackja'' zz, is more experimental and extreme than the band's first releases. It incorporates elements from black metal, progressive rock, and 19th and 20th Century classical music with the foundations of jazz music. Reception The album was well received by critics, with Heavy Blog Is Heavy awarding the album 4.5 out of 5 stars, and the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet rating the album a 5 out of 6. Shining (Norwegian Band)
Shining (stylized as SHINING) is a Norwegian band from Oslo. Thirteen musicians have been a part of the band's lineup in its history, with singer, guitarist, saxophonist, and songwriter Jørgen Munkeby as its leading force and only constant member. The band is also called SHINING (NOR) to avoid confusion with the eponymous Swedish black metal band. Shining was created in 1999 as an acoustic instrumental jazz quartet consisting of Munkeby, drummer Torstein Lofthus, pianist Morten Qvenild, and double bassist Aslak Hartberg. They released their first albums ''Where the Ragged People Go'' and '' Sweet Shanghai Devil'' in 2001 and 2003 respectively. Torstein Lofthus (born 10 March 1977) is a Norwegian drummer and composer who has been a member of the bands Shining, Elephant9, the Mathias Eick Band, D'Sound, and Ebersson/Zanussi/Lofthus. He is married to Hege Lofthus. Career Lofthus has had a major influence on Norwegian music through studio work, live concerts and teaching at Norwegian Academy of Music and at University of Agder (the Faculty of Fine Arts).
