One Night At Susie's
''One Night at Susie's'' is a 1930 American pre-Code drama film released by First National Pictures and directed by John Francis Dillon. The movie stars Billie Dove and features Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Helen Ware and Tully Marshall. Plot Susie (Helen Ware), who runs a house for gangsters, is raising Dick Rollins, the son ( Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) of a dead convict. Susie has raised Dick well, making sure that he was not influenced by her gangster friends. She even gets him a job as press agent. Dick falls in love with Mary, a chorus girl, (Billie Dove). When he announces his engagement, Susie becomes infuriated, because she believes that a girl of her type will urge him on to a life of crime. Her premonitions come to fruition. John Francis Dillon (director)
John Francis Dillon (July 13, 1884 – April 4, 1934) was an American film director and actor of the silent era. He directed 130 films between 1914 and 1934. He also appeared in 74 films between 1914 and 1931. He was born in New York, New York, was a brother of Robert A. Dillon, and died in Los Angeles, California from a heart attack. He was married to the actress Edith Hallor. James Crane (actor)
James Lyon Crane (1889–1968) was an American stage and screen actor. Early years Crane was born in Rantoul, Illinois, and was the son of writer Frank Crane, who left the ministry and became an editorial writer for ''The New York Globe.'' He attended Bowdoin College and Williams College. During summer vacations, he began acting with stock companies in Worcester, Massachusetts. Career Crane's New York debut came in ''The Price'' at the Hudson Theatre, after which he spent three years in stock theater, including having his own troupes in four cities. Claude Flemming (1884–1952) was an Australian actor, writer, producer and director of theatre and film whose varied stage career spanned the first half of the 20th century.
