''One Night Stand'' is a Canadian music television series which aired on CBC Television in 1976. Premise This series featured Toronto concerts in the rock and pop genres, presented by either Rob Parker and Mel Profit who alternated as episode hosts. Featured artists included Dianne Heatherington, Joe Mendelson of Mainline, Domenic Troiano Band and the Christopher Ward Band. Mel Profit
Mel Profit (born July 30, 1941 in New York, New York) was a football player in the CFL for six years. He was selected originally by the Los Angeles Rams in the 1963 NFL Draft. He starred as a tight end for the Toronto Argonauts. Mel authored a book entitled ''For Love, Money and Future Considerations'' which gave a player's view of the CFL. John Martin (1947 – February 23,Coroner's Report 2006) was a Canadian broadcaster, credited with "almost single-handedly" creating music television in Canada. Early life and career Born in Manchester, England, Martin left school at 16 and moved to London, where he worked as a rock drummer and freelance writer. At 20, he moved to Canada, finding work as a researcher for CBC Radio, then CBC Television. Dianne Heatherington
Dianne Mae Heatherington (May 14, 1948 – October 22, 1996) was a Canadian singer of several genres, particularly rock, whose musical career spanned nearly two decades. In the latter part of her career, she became a successful businessperson in the film security industry, while at the same time enjoying modest success as a Canadian film and television actress. She was nominated for a Juno Award in 1981 in the category of Most Promising Female Vocalist of the Year. She also hosted her own national CBC Television series, ''Dianne'', in 1971. In May 1993, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer from which she died on October 22, 1996, aged 48, in Toronto. Early life and musical career Heatherington was born in Fort Rouge, Winnipeg. Mendelson Joe (born Birrel Josef Mendelson on July 30, 1944) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, guitarist, painter and outspoken political activist who uses his art to express political themes. Career Born and raised in Maple, Ontario and educated at the University of Toronto with a B.A. in 1966, he began performing as a blues musician under the name Joe Mendelson in 1964. Four years later, he joined with guitarist Mike McKenna to form the band McKenna Mendelson Mainline, which was active until 1972 and reformed briefly in 1975. In 1975, Joe adopted his current name, and began performing as a solo artist, frequently collaborating with musicians such as Ben Mink, Gwen Swick and Colin Linden. He also began to make a name for himself as a contemporary artist, pursuing painting, often of portraits of popular musical figures, as well as music. Domenic Troiano
Domenic Michele Antonio Troiano (January 17, 1946 – May 25, 2005) was a Canadian guitarist and songwriter, best known as a member of Mandala, Bush, James Gang, and The Guess Who. He also recorded music for film and television, often made guest appearances on other musicians' albums, and worked as a producer. Biography Troiano was born in Modugno, Italy, and his family emigrated to Toronto, Ontario during his childhood. He became a Canadian citizen in 1955. His first professional music work was in the early 1960s with a band fronted by Ronnie Hawkins. In 1965 Troiano joined a local Toronto band called the Five Rogues, which later found success as Mandala. The band achieved several hit singles in Canada, and played several times in the United States. Mandala disbanded in 1969, after which Troiano and some of the other members formed the new band Bush. Christopher William Ward (born 28 July 1949) is a Canadian songwriter and broadcaster, known as a former long-standing on-air personality at MuchMusic, Canada's music video network, where he and J. D. Roberts were among the first video jockeys in 1984. Ward was a judge on ''The Next Star'' which was a Canadian reality television show on YTV.
