Spear Of Destiny (band)
Spear of Destiny is a British rock band, formed in London in 1982 by lead vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter Kirk Brandon and bassist Stan Stammers. It has had an ever-changing line-up through the years. They have had 10 UK Singles Chart entries. Four reached the Top 50 but only one made the Top 20 – "Never Take Me Alive" (1987). History Formed in 1982, the band's original line-up consisted of Kirk Brandon, Stan Stammers, Chris Bell and Lascelles James. In late 1983, this line-up was superseded by Dolphin Taylor on drums, Alan St. Clair on guitar, John Lennard on saxophone and Neil Pyzer on keyboards and additional saxophone. In 1984, John Lennard was replaced by Mickey Donnelly on saxophone. Spear of Destiny recorded one session for John Peel (recorded 22 November 1982, transmitted on BBC Radio 1 on 29 November 1982). Dolphin Taylor
Brian "Dolphin" Taylor (born 10 November 1958) is a British former drummer. Tom Robinson Band Taylor's first band was Dragon's Playground, which earlier had had Annie Lennox as a vocalist. In 1976 Dragon's Playground appeared on ATV's ''New Faces''. His career with the Tom Robinson Band started when Taylor gave a friend a lift to an audition as bass guitarist for the Tom Robinson Band in 1976. As the band had no drummer at that point, Taylor (who was already a drummer) filled in. By the end of the evening, the band was still looking for a bass guitarist, but had found their drummer. He stayed for two years, eventually resigning in 1978. Stiff Little Fingers In 1982 he joined Stiff Little Fingers, playing on the ''£1.10 or less'' EP, and the '' Now Then...'' Peter Wilson (record Producer)
Peter Wilson is a British record producer. Amongst several others, Wilson worked with the Style Council, Sham 69 and the Comsat Angels. Career Wilson is a graduate of Surrey University where he studied on the Tonmeister music course. While on the Tonmeister course he enjoyed a placement with AIR Studios. In that time he worked with, among others, producers George Martin, Tony Visconti and Chris Thomas, engineers Geoff Emerick and Bill Price and musician Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd). After leaving Surrey University, he worked as an engineer at Polydor Studios, working with artists including Brian Eno, Neil Sedaka, Bill Bruford, Alexis Korner and Peggy Lee. Gary Michael Langan (born 19 April 1956) is an English engineer, record producer, mixer and musician. Biography His career started at age 18 when he worked as an assistant engineer at Sarm East Studios, learning the craft from Gary Lyons and Mike Stone, whom he assisted on the Queen albums '' A Night at the Opera'', '' A Day at the Races'', and ''News of the World''. After engineering for John Sinclair (co-founder of ''Sarm'' (East), together with sister Jill Sinclair, G. Lyons and M. Stone) on his band Levinsky/Sinclair's 1979 single "Only Feel This Way" and for Trevor Horn on '' 90125'' by Yes, Langan would produce '' Beauty Stab'' by ABC and, later, ''Through the Barricades'' by Spandau Ballet. Alan St Clair
Alan St. Clair (born 18 May 1959) is a British guitarist, who played with several prominent punk and new wave musicians in the 1970s and 1980s. Biography In 1977, he helped form punk band Dog Days, alongside Simon Le Bon, later of Duran Duran. Other members included Peter Johns, Carol Isaacs and Olivier Behzadi. One demo tape was made, one concert played before they disbanded when Le Bon left London for University in Birmingham. After the band dissolved in 1978, St. Clair continued to work with Peter Johns, and in 1980 formed Voxpop, alongside Ian Johns, Steve Wilcox and Neil Pyzer, until 1981 when they disbanded. The same year, he formed Dive Dive Dive with David Pearson, Vincent Pitt, Patrick Ahern and John Pilny and Beau Shave. Demos and concerts followed. Piccolo
The piccolo ( ; Italian for 'small') is a half-size flute and a member of the woodwind family of musical instruments. Sometimes referred to as a "baby flute" the modern piccolo has similar fingerings as the standard transverse flute, but the sound it produces is an octave higher. This has given rise to the name ottavino (), by which the instrument is called in Italian and thus also in scores of Italian composers. Piccolos are often orchestrated to double the violins or the flutes, adding sparkle and brilliance to the overall sound because of the aforementioned one-octave transposition upwards. Saxophone
The saxophone (often referred to colloquially as the sax) is a type of single-reed woodwind instrument with a conical body, usually made of brass. As with all single-reed instruments, sound is produced when a reed on a mouthpiece vibrates to produce a sound wave inside the instrument's body. Stan Stammers
Stan Stammers (born 19 May 1961, England) is an English musician best known as the bass player for the bands Theatre of Hate, Spear of Destiny and Plastic Eaters. Early life Stammers grew up in Saffron Walden, Essex. He got into punk music by going to see live bands at Cambridge Corn Exchange and other nearby venues. Stammers' first band was 'The Jump', based in Newport, a village close to Saffron Walden and from an early age his main influence for playing bass was Slade's bass player Jimmy Lea, who he cites as an influence today, along with Paul Simonon (The Clash), Bruce Foxton (The Jam) and Horace Panter (The Specials). Kirk Brandon
Kirk Brandon (born 3 August 1956) is an English musician best known as the leader of the bands Theatre of Hate and Spear of Destiny and a former lover of Boy George. Musical career Brandon's music career started in 1978, in Clapham, south London, with the formation of punk group The Pack, in which he was the singer and songwriter. The Pack consisted of Brandon, Scottish-born drummer Rab Fae Beith and two Canadian brothers, Simon and Jon Werner on guitars. The last live gig by The Pack took place at the 101 club in Clapham. Brandon then formed the post punk new wave band Theatre of Hate in 1980 recruiting Stan Stammers on bass guitar, Nigel Preston on drums, Billy Duffy on guitar and John 'Boy' Lennard on saxophone.
