On The Sunday Of Life
''On the Sunday of Life...'' is the debut album of English progressive rock band Porcupine Tree, first released on May 12, 1992. It compiles tracks that Steven Wilson produced and recorded for two cassette-only releases, ''Tarquin's Seaweed Farm'' (1989) and ''The Nostalgia Factory'' (1991). The rest of the music from these tapes was released three years later in the compilation album ''Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape''. Most of the lyrics were written by Alan Duffy, a school friend with whom Steven Wilson had lost touch a few years before the album was released. The album title was chosen from a long list of nonsense titles compiled by Richard Allen of Delerium. A small run of 1000 copies in a deluxe gatefold sleeve were released in early 1992. The album, over time, eventually sold in excess of 20,000 copies. The version of "Radioactive Toy" that featured on the album is re-recorded. Porcupine Tree
Porcupine Tree are an English rock band formed by musician Steven Wilson in 1987. During an initial career spanning more than twenty years, they earned critical acclaim from critics and fellow musicians, developed a cult following, and became an influence for new artists. The group carved out a career at a certain distance away from mainstream music, being described by publications such as ''Classic Rock'' and ''PopMatters'' as "the most important band you’d never heard of". The band began as a solo project for Wilson, who initially created all of the band's music himself. Kscope
Kscope is an independent record label that is part of Snapper Music, and a sister-label of Peaceville. It is dedicated to artists in the progressive rock genre. The label has released albums by Steven Wilson and his projects Porcupine Tree (mostly re-issue only), No-Man and Blackfield. In 2008 it branched out and has since signed the post-progressive artists Anathema, Lunatic Soul and Ulver, and progressive rock stalwart Ian Anderson to their roster. In 2013, the Steven Wilson release ''The Raven That Refused to Sing (and Other Stories)'' received the Album of the Year award at the Progressive Music Awards. Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape
''Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape'' is a compilation album by British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree (at that time a pseudonym for private solo projects by Steven Wilson but later a fully fledged band in its own right). It is a compilation of the band's initial three tapes, ''Tarquin's Seaweed Farm'', ''Love, Death & Mussolini'' and ''The Nostalgia Factory''. It consists of the rest of the music from the tapes that was not included in the band's first studio album '' On the Sunday of Life...'' and a previously unreleased track "An Empty Box". The album was first released in 1994 as a limited run of 2,500 CD copies. In 2000, Gates of Dawn re-released the album as a double LP edition pressed on yellow vinyl, limited to 1000 copies, and on black vinyl up to 150 copies. 300 extra copies were pressed on green vinyl in 2005. Tarquin's Seaweed Farm
''Tarquin's Seaweed Farm'', subtitled "Words from a Hessian Sack", is the first album to be released by Steven Wilson under the pseudonym Porcupine Tree. It was originally a compiled cassette of experimental music made by Steven Wilson for his joke band he formed with his friend Malcom Stocks. The cassette was only sent out to a few people, but was enough to give the band a bit of fame in the UK underground music scene of the time, being picked up by the underground magazine Freakbeat. It was later released under Delerium Records in 1991 in a limited edition of 300 copies. Tracks 1 to 7, and a re-recorded version of "Radioactive Toy", would be released on the band's first studio album, ''On the Sunday of Life...''. Steven Wilson
Steven John Wilson (born 3 November 1967) is an English musician. He is the founder, guitarist, lead vocalist and songwriter of the rock band Porcupine Tree, as well as being a member of several other bands, including Blackfield, Storm Corrosion and No-Man. He is also a solo artist, having released 6 solo albums since his solo debut ''Insurgentes'' in 2008. In a career spanning more than 30 years, Wilson has made music prolifically and earned critical acclaim. His honours include six nominations for Grammy Awards: twice with Porcupine Tree, once with his collaborative band Storm Corrosion and three times as a solo artist. In 2017 ''The Daily Telegraph'' described him as "a resolutely independent artist" and "probably the most successful British artist you've never heard of". ''Up the Downstair'' is the second studio album by United Kingdom, British progressive rock band Porcupine Tree, first released in June 1993. It was originally intended to be a double album set including the song "Voyage 34: The Complete Trip, Voyage 34", which was instead released as a single (music), single in 1992, and other material that ended up on the ''Staircase Infinities'' Extended play, EP (1994). In 2005, it was partially re-recorded, fully re-mixed, remastered and re-released along with the ''Staircase Infinities'' EP as a double album. The re-release contains a new mix by Steven Wilson, along with recorded drums by Gavin Harrison that replace the electronic drums of the original version. Another re-release on double vinyl was pressed on 14 August 2008 on Kscope records. ''The Nostalgia Factory'', subtitled "...and other tips for amateur golfers", is the second album to be released by Steven Wilson under the pseudonym Porcupine Tree. It was the second full-length cassette produced for his 'joke' project with friend Malcom Stocks. The album was issued by Delerium in 1991 (despite the Porcupine Tree website stating 1990) in a limited edition of 300 copies. Tracks 1 through 7, an edited version of "The Nostalgia Factory" and "This Long Silence", "Nine Cats" and "It Will Rain for a Million Years" were released on the band's first studio album, ''On the Sunday of Life''. The rest of the songs except "Sinatra Rape Scene" were released on the compilation album ''Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape'', however "Colours Dance Angels Kiss" was stripped of its title, being listed as "Track Eleven", and "Hokey Cokey" was retitled "Execution of the Will of the Marquis de Sade".
