On Your Behalf is a consumer affairs radio programme broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster on Saturday mornings and repeated midweek in the evening. Consumer protection is the practice of safeguarding buyers of goods and services, and the public, against unfair practices in the marketplace. Consumer protection measures are often established by law. Such laws are intended to prevent businesses from engaging in fraud or specified unfair practices in order to gain an advantage over competitors or to mislead consumers. They may also provide additional protection for the general public which may be impacted by a product (or its production) even when they are not the direct purchaser or consumer of that product. For example, government regulations may require businesses to disclose detailed information about their products—particularly in areas where public health or safety is an issue, such as with food or automobiles. BBC Radio Ulster
BBC Radio Ulster ( ga, BBC Raidió Uladh) is a Northern Irish radio station owned and operated by BBC Northern Ireland, a division of the BBC. It was established on New Year's Day 1975, replacing what had been an opt-out of BBC Radio 4. It is broadcast on radio across Northern Ireland and parts of the Republic of Ireland, and on digital television services across all of Ireland. According to RAJAR, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 469,000 with a listening share of 17.8% as of September 2022. Overview It is the most widely listened to radio station in Northern Ireland, with a diverse range of programmes, including news, talk, features, music and sport. Linda McAuley
Linda McAuley is a presenter for the BBC Radio Ulster consumer advice programme ''On Your Behalf''. McAuley first worked for Downtown Radio in 1976 as a copytaker, then newsreader and presenter. She joined BBC Radio Ulster in 1978 as presenter of the evening drive time programme ''Change Gear''. Since September 1995 she has hosted the Saturday morning consumer programme ''On Your Behalf''. The Trading Standards Institute named ''On Your Behalf'' "Best Consumer Television or Radio Programme", and McAuley was awarded "National Consumer Journalist of the Year for Northern Ireland" in 2006. McAuley married Paul Wilson in 1998. She has three sons, Neil, Michael and James, together with her first husband, whom she divorced in 1992. The Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) is a professional association which represents and trains trading standards professionals working in local authorities, business and consumer sectors and in central government in the UK and overseas. History The CTSI was formed from a merger of the Institute of Trading Standards Administration, created in 1956, and the Incorporated Society of Inspectors of Weights and Measures, established in 1881. It was granted its Royal charter by the Privy Council of the United Kingdom on 1 April 2015. Hampton Report The Hampton Report, commissioned in 2004 and published in 2005, led to the creation of the Local Better Regulation Office (LBRO).
