''On Valentine's Day'' is a 1986 American drama film directed by Ken Harrison. It is the sequel of Harrison's '' 1918''. It was entered into the main competition at the 43rd Venice International Film Festival and was screened at the 1986 Toronto International Film Festival. Plot On Valentine's Day is the central film in Horton Foote's semi-autobiographical trilogy that also includes Courtship (film) and 1918. It is a nearly verbatim retelling of his stage play and the sets and costumes. Albert Horton Foote Jr. (March 14, 1916March 4, 2009) was an American playwright and screenwriter. He received Academy Awards for his screenplays for the 1962 film ''To Kill a Mockingbird'', which was adapted from the 1960 novel of the same name by Harper Lee, and his original screenplay for the film ''Tender Mercies'' (1983). He was also known for his notable live television dramas produced during the Golden Age of Television. Foote received the 1995 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his play '' The Young Man From Atlanta''. He was the inaugural recipient of the Austin Film Festival's Distinguished Screenwriter Award. In 2000, he was awarded the National Medal of Arts. William McGhee (July 24, 1930 – February 17, 2007) was an American stage, film and television actor. He was also known professionally as Bill McGee, Bill McGhee and William Bill McGhee. Hotel explosion On June 21, 1946, aged 15, McGhee held an elevator operator job at the Baker Hotel in downtown Dallas, when an ammonia explosion occurred during work on a refrigeration unit. He was temporarily reported as dead in the media, but he survived. He suffered amnesia, but was fully restored to health.
