On The High Seas
''On the High Seas'' is a 1922 American silent adventure film directed by Irvin Willat and written by Edward Sheldon and E. Magnus Ingleton. The film stars Dorothy Dalton, Jack Holt, Mitchell Lewis, Winter Hall, Michael Dark, Otto Brower, and William Boyd. The film was released on September 17, 1922, by Paramount Pictures. Plot As described in a film magazine review, while returning from East Asia, the ship S.S. ''Andren'' catches fire. Leone Deveraux is rescued by stokers Jim Dorn and Joe Polack, and the three cast off in a small boat. After three days, they sight a plague ship derelict, throw the corpses overboard, and make themselves at home. Joe desires Leone and one night during a storm attacks her, but she is rescued by Jim with whom she has fallen in love. Joe is then killed by a falling mast. Irvin Willat
Irvin V. Willat (November 18, 1890 – April 17, 1976) was an American film director of the silent film, silent film era. A short biography reprinted from ''Blue Book of the Screen'' (1923). He directed 39 films between 1917 and 1937. Early in his career Willat worked as a cinematographer on several films. His older brother Edwin Willat (1882–1950) was cinematographer on several silent films. James Gordon (actor)
James Gordon (April 23, 1871 – May 12, 1941) was an American silent film actor. He appeared in more than 120 films between 1911 and 1935. He also directed 4 films between 1913 and 1915, including the 1915 film '' The New Adventures of J. Rufus Wallingford''. Gordon was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on April 23, 1871. He died on May 12, 1941, in Hollywood, California, aged 70, from post-surgical complications. He is buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
