Love's Old Sweet Song
"Love's Old Sweet Song" is a Victorian parlour song published in 1884 by composer James Lynam Molloy and lyricist Graham Clifton Bingham. The first line of the chorus is "Just a song at twilight", and its title is sometimes misidentified as such. Bingham wrote the lyric of ‘Love’s Old Sweet Song’, after which various composers competed to set it to music. The successful candidate was James Molloy. It was first sung by Antoinette Sterling at a concert at St. James Hall in London in 1884. James Molloy worked at her house on the melody and accompaniment. The song has been recorded by many artists, including John McCormack and Clara Butt. The song is alluded to in James Joyce's '' Ulysses'' as being sung by Molly Bloom. Arthur Sullivan was accused of using the song’s first two bars for ‘When a merry maiden marries’ in The Gondoliers; he denied it. Notable recordings *1892 Thomas Bott *1905 Corrine Morgan *1920 Chester Gaylord *1932 Rondoliers and Piano Pals *1940 T ...

Ship Ahoy
''Ship Ahoy'' is a 1942 American musical-comedy film directed by Edward Buzzell and starring Eleanor Powell and Red Skelton. It was produced by MGM. Background ''Ship Ahoy'' was the first of two films in which Powell and Skelton co-starred. It is considered a lesser effort on both actors' behalf, however the film is chiefly remembered today for including Frank Sinatra, who appears in an uncredited performance as a singer with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. The movie also is credited with one of the most unusual displays of dance on screen for a sequence in which Powell's character, needing to communicate a message to a (real) US agent in the audience of one of her shows, manages to tap out the message in morse code. (Reportedly, Powell taps genuine code during the performance.) The film was to be called ''Ill Take Manila'', but was renamed after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Skelton and Powell next paired up in 1943's '' I Dood It''. In that film, they appeared with Jimmy Dorsey, ...

''Hey Arnold!'' is an American animated comedy television series created by Craig Bartlett. It originally aired on Nickelodeon from October 7, 1996, to June 8, 2004. Bartlett's idea for the show is based on a minor character named Arnold whom he created while working on ''Pee-wee's Playhouse''. The executives enjoyed the character, and Bartlett completed the cast and setting by drawing inspiration from people and locations he grew up with in Seattle, Washington, Portland, Oregon, and Brooklyn, New York. Bartlett created the pilot episode in his living room in 1994 and official production began in 1995. The animators worked to transform Arno ...

Two Of A Kind (UK TV Series)
''Two of a Kind'' is an early TV series for comedy duo Morecambe and Wise. It ran from 1961 to 1968 produced by ATV for the ITV network. History In 1954, Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise had starred in their first television series, '' Running Wild'' on BBC Television. This had proven to be a failure, which saw the duo initially return to the variety circuit, before slowly making a return to television, with guest spots on ''The Winifred Atwell Show'' and ''Double Six''. Their increasing success eventually led to an offer from Lew Grade, the managing director of ATV (then an ITV franchise holder), for a second attempt at a television series of their own. With memories of their previous attempt still in their mind, the duo said that they would accept the offer from Grade if they could obtain the services of the writing team of Dick Hills and Sid Green, as well as producer Colin Clews. Once these were in situ, work could begin in earnest on the new show. Initially, there were p ...
