Omenka Gallery
Omenka Gallery is a Nigerian contemporary art gallery, which represents Nigerian and international artists at its exhibition space in Lagos. History Omenka Gallery was founded in Lagos in 2003 by Nigerian artist, curator and art administrator Oliver Enwonwu. Enwonwu's father, Ben Enwonwu, (1917-1994) was one of Nigeria's leading, 20th-century, modernist artists. Exhibitions Since 2003, Omenka Gallery's programme of solo and group exhibitions has introduced new work by established and emerging Nigerian and international artists. Exhibitions, like the 2009 show, ''A perspective on contemporary Nigerian photography'', focused public attention on developing trends in the Nigerian artworld by featuring new talents, like George Osodi (b.1974), alongside renowned masters such as J.D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere (1930-2014). Ikoyi
Ikoyi is the most affluent neighborhood of Lagos, located in Eti-Osa Local Government Area. It lies to the northeast of Obalende and adjoins Lagos Island to the west, and at the edge of the Lagos Lagoon. Popular with the extreme upper class residents of Nigerian society, Ikoyi is arguably one of the wealthiest communities within Nigeria. The area that makes up Ikoyi was originally a continuous land mass with Lagos Island, until it was separated from it by the MacGregor canal, a narrow waterway that was dug by the British colonial government. Nnenna Okore
Nnenna Okore (born 1975 in Canberra, Australia) is an Australian-born Nigerian artist who lives and works in Chicago at North Park University, Chicago. Her largely abstract sculptural forms are inspired by richly textured forms and colors within the natural environment. Okore's work frequently uses flotsam or discarded objects to create intricate sculptures and installations through repetitive and labor-intensive processes. She learnt some of her intricate methods, including weaving, sewing, rolling, twisting and dyeing, by watching local Nigerians perform daily domestic tasks. In her more recent works, Okore uses plant-based materials (in particular, food scraps and food waste) to create large bioplastic art forms and installations. Her work has been shown in galleries and museums within and outside of the United States. Kimathi Donkor
Kimathi Donkor (born in 1965) is a London-based contemporary British artist of Ghanaian, Anglo-Jewish and Jamaican family heritage whose figurative paintings depict "African diasporic bodies and souls as sites of heroism and martydom, empowerment and fragility...myth and matter". Cedric Nunn
Cedric Nunn (born 1957) is a South African photographer best known for his photography depicting the country before and after the end of apartheid. Career Nunn was born into a mixed-race family in Nongoma, KwaZulu, in 1957. He was raised in Hluhluwe, Mangete and Baynesfield. He attended school in Ixopo KwaZulu-Natal up until standard eighth (Grade 10), when he was fifteen. He moved to Johannesburg in 1982 and began working as a professional photographer at the age of 25. Nunn became one of the prominent photographers to document apartheid resistance in the 1980s. He went on to co-found Afrapix, a photographic collective that supplied newspapers outside South Africa with images of apartheid, with Paul Weinberg, Peter Mackenzie and Omar Badsha.
